Overview

Become acquainted with the Dutch countryside during this 8-hour day tour with your guide through the villages of Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam and Marken. Marvel at the famed windmills of Zaanse Schans as you learn of their significance to the region. Visit a clog workshop where they will carve us live this typical shoe. Take a free time to photograph the impressive landscapes. Visit Edam, a World Heritage Site and whose old town is one of the most beautiful in Holland. Enjoy in a cheese factory, where they will show us how cheese is made. This tour includes an extensive tasting. Lose yourself amidst the striking wooden houses and a maze of narrow streets in Volendam, the former fishing village. Enjoy some free time to taste the local fish. The Volendam's cod and herring are delicious! Then, travel to the old island of Marken enjoing the amazing views around you. This historic place remains well-preserved to this day. Finally we will return to Amsterdam.

  • Zaanse Schans

    Our guide will explain the history and function of the typical Dutch mills and will visit with you a traditional wooden clog workshop . Then you will enjoy free time to visit and photograph the mills.

  • Edam

    After a walking tour through the center of the historic city of Edam visiting its most well-known monuments and corners, we will access a typical cheese factory where they will tell us about the process of making cheese and we will enjoy a tasting of different types of cheese.

  • Volendam

    We will enjoy a guided tour of the old town and port of Volendam. We will have free time to walk around and eat at any of its restaurants.

  • Marken

    Once we arrive at the islet of Marken, we will enjoy a guided tour from its idyllic port through its narrow streets before returning to Amsterdam.

Exploring Holland countryside was fun and educational. The quaint villages and port were charming and relaxing from the energetic city of Amsterdam. The highlight was the Edam's variety of cheeses to taste and observing the windmills and clog making demonstration. A very informative tour through gorgeous villages outside of Amsterdam. Our tour guide, Diego, was engaging, interesting, and extremely knowledgeable, and led us through a fantastic day. We came away having learned quite a bit about the history of the Netherlands and with a new insight into how things were hundreds of years ago.

This tour was very lovely! Our guide Wybe was excellent and gave us a lot of great information about The Netherlands and the different stops throughout the trip. Because we stop at so many locations, the pace is a little fast--just to keep in mind for folks who walk slow or prefer a more leisurely pace. I appreciated that we stayed on schedule, though, to return back in Amsterdam right on time.
