    Zaanse Schans is a neighborhood in the Dutch town of Zaandam, near Amsterdam. Historic windmills and distinctive green wooden houses were relocated here to recreate the look of an 18th/19th-century village.

    Volendam is a Dutch fishermans village on the Markermeer Lake, northeast of Amsterdam. It’s known for its colorful wooden houses and the old fishing boats in its harbor, which is lined with seafood vendors. If preferred you can also have lunch in this beautiful village.

    Marken is known for its rich maritime history, traditional wooden houses and unique culture. Located in the Markermeer, this former island attracts visitors for its picturesque landscape, historic sights and artisanal crafts. Some of the characteristic features of Marken include the characteristic wooden houses that stand on stilts above the water, the famous lighthouse "Het Paard van Marken".

The countryside tour was an enriching experience that took me on a journey through the windmills, cheese farm and factory, Volendam and Marken.
