Overview

We will experience Montserrat’s Natural Park and its Monastery with a passionate local guide in small groups up to a maximum 8 people. HIGHLIGHTS Leave earlier than others to avoid agglomerations Montserrat Abbey and Black Madonna Funicular railway to the top of the mountain 1 hour superlative and easy hike Farmer’s market TOUR DESCRIPTION We will first visit in Montserrat its Benedictine Abbey, first built on the 11th century and home to Catalonia’s Patroness Saint. After we will get on funicular railway to go to the top of the mountain from where we enjoy the stunning views from the Natural Park of Montserrat and the rest of Catalonia from a bird´s eye view. During the hike we will walk on the same paths used by pilgrims hundreds of years ago, we will get inspired by Montserrat’s fascinating flora and fauna and we will experience unique ways where rocky pillars and ravines show us how inner mysterious water emerge from the hidden and undiscovered very center of the massif.

    Start your adventure in the vibrant city of Barcelona, where you'll meet your guide and prepare for a scenic hour-long trip to Montserrat. As you travel, you'll enjoy a drive through the the city, passing by famous sights including the elegant Paseo de Gracia, the bustling Diagonal Avenue, the Royal Palace, the historic University of Barcelona, and the renowned FC Barcelona's Sportive City.

    Enter the majestic Natural Park of Montserrat and enjoy the incredible views as we make our way up the mountain. We’ll arrive at Montserrat, a site considered the heart of Catalan tradition due to its profound history, religious significance, and rich cultural heritage. Begin your cultural visit to the Montserrat Monastery, where you’ll learn about its storied past and explore the Basilica of Santa Maria de Montserrat. Discover the lifestyle of the monks and take in the stunning scenery from the monastery.

    From the Montserrat Monastery, we will ride the Sant Joan Funicular up to the top of the mountain. During the ascent and once at the summit, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscapes and the spectacular rock formations.

    Begin the hike from the summit of Montserrat, where you'll predominantly walk downhill, allowing you to leisurely take in the breathtaking views that unfold before you. Discover the local wildlife that inhabits this unique landscape, and immerse yourself in the natural beauty that Montserrat has to offer.

    After your hike, take some time to explore the delightful farmers market, where you can taste local specialties, including the famous Montserrat cheeses. Seeing Montserrat was beautiful. Our guide was excellent. We loved learning the history of the mountains and the monastery. We got to see so much on the hike down the mountain too, the views were amazing. This is a perfect day trip from Barcelona and such a nice way to spend time on the mountain, in nature.
