    The first part of the Keizersgracht (between Brouwersgracht and (approximately) the current Leidsegracht) was dug in the summer of 1615 on the initiative of mayor Frans Hendricksz. Oetgens, city carpenter Hendrick Jacobsz Staets and city surveyor Lucas Jansz Sinck. The Keizersgracht, named after Emperor Maximilian I of the Holy Roman Empire,[1] is the widest canal in the center of Amsterdam, namely one hundred Amsterdam feet, i.e. 28.31 meters. A remarkable detail is that the Keizersgracht was dug later than the Prinsengracht (which was dug in 1614), while the Keizersgracht is the second canal of the three main canals.

    The Homomonument is a memorial on the Westermarkt, located between the Westerkerk and the Keizersgracht in the city center of Amsterdam. The monument was unveiled on September 5, 1987 and consists of three pink granite triangles, arranged to form a large triangle. It serves to commemorate all gay men and women who have been persecuted because of their orientation and to inspire and support them in their struggle for recognition and against oppression and discrimination.

    This renaissance style tower was finished in 1638. It is Amsterdam's most famous tower and at the hart of the Jordaan neighbourhood. The tower is also subject of a very famous local folk song in typical 'Jordanees' croner style.

    The Westerkerk was built between 1620 and 1631 in Renaissance style according to designs by master builder Hendrick de Keyser (1565-1621). He is buried in the Zuiderkerk. The Westerkerk was completed under the leadership of his son Pieter de Keyser (1595-1676) and put into use on June 8, 1631. The church has a length of 58 meters and a width of 29 meters. The high central nave is flanked by the two lower side aisles. The three-aisled basilica has a rectangular plan with two transepts of equal dimensions. As a result, the floor plan took the shape of two connected Greek crosses.

    The Anne Frank House is a museum at Westermarkt 20 in Amsterdam in memory of Anne Frank and her Jewish family who went into hiding during the Second World War. The museum was built around their hiding place, the Achterhuis at Prinsengracht 263, where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary Het Achterhuis.

De gracht dankt sinds 1594 zijn naam aan de vele bierbrouwerijen die in de zestiende en zeventiende eeuw in deze buurt waren te vinden. Vanaf 1782 zit aan de Brouwersgracht bij de Driehoekstraat de laatste Amsterdamse distilleerderij van jenever en likeuren: De Ooievaar. De meeste pakhuizen, gebouwd voor de opslag van goederen, zijn omgebouwd tot woonhuizen.

An amazing Amsterdam canal boat experience!

Amazing guys, we thoroughly enjoyed our canal boat trip with the team at Mokumboot! The skipper was both knowledgeable and funny. We saw the amazing sights of Amsterdam and were also given a free drink. Great guys and a great experience, highly recommended.
