Over 17 years in the industry & the only company that features professional guide & Marine Biologist as your lead guide, rest assure that we will provide you with the most outstanding quality of service & reliable info about the bioluminescence & the ecosystems explored. We were founded by 2 Marine Biologist with the sole purpose of sharing this incredible natural phenomenon with the entire World. That's why many guests come with us, looking for fun facts, safe environment, & eager to interview the Marine Biologist. - All guests must be able to row their kayaks by themselves. One of the requirements is that you are able to get in and out of the kayak on your own and be able to maneuver it. If you are an unexperienced kayaker we highly suggest you choose the earlier tour. Kayaks have a weight limit of 220 lbs. per person (NO exceptions). To assure weight restriction is met, guests will be weighed on-site. It is the guest responsibility to comply with health and weight requirement.

  • Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • The owner of the service animal must provide a Licensed Life-vest by the Coast Guard for the animal. The animal must be in total control all the time. Keep in mind that there will be many people around in the dark.
  • Minimum age 6 years
  • Guest under 18 yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult
  • For safety reasons pregnant women cannot participate. (NO exclusions)
  • Kayaks have a weight limit of 220 lbs. per person. (NO exclusions) To assure weight restriction is met, guests will be weighed on-site.
  • If necessary, a tarp (canopy) may be used during the excursion to block any light pollution and enhanced the experience.
  • Our kayaks are all tandem kayaks for two people - you are booking per person not per kayak.
  • Guest that are not able to complete the tour for any reason will not be provided a refund of any type.
  • All guests must be able to row their kayaks by themselves. One of the requirements is that you are able to get in and out of the kayak on your own and be able to maneuver it. If you are an unexperienced kayaker we highly suggest you choose the earlier tour.
  • If one space is left, that means there is 1 space (for 1 person) on a tandem kayak (No single kayaks available). You will be accompanied by another guest on the tour.
  • All guests must arrive 30 mins before the start of the tour. The drive from San Juan can be about an hour and 20-30 mins depending on traffic. Please plan accordingly
  • Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way. When crowded conditions warrant, Pure Adventure will provide extra guides for your safety.
  • Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary from minimal no very bright suddenly.
  • In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills
  • Our offices are closed on SUNDAYS - Reservations made Saturday after 5 pm will not be revised until Monday at 9 am. For cancellations request during this time please send us a message through Viator.
  • SPECIAL NOTE: We encourage our guests to not reserve the tour on the same day of arrival to the Island. If the FLIGHT or FERRY is delayed and the guest misses the tour the guest will not be entitled to a refund or rescheduling.
  • TOUR TIME might change depending on sunset time. If so we will send a reminder for updated meeting time.
  • This tour takes place in the water. Expect to get completely wet. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. We recommend to bring a change of clothes and towel for after the trip.
  • Tour is not canceled in rainy days. We will get wet anyways ;)
  • It is the guest responsibility to read and comply with health and weight requirements. Ignorance of the requirements is not accepted as an excuse.
  • There are public bathrooms on-site, but they are not always in good condition. You may consider stopping in fast food before getting to the meeting site or using the bathrooms from the nearby stores/restaurants which are sometimes available.
  • No Expecting Mothers
  • For safety reasons, children under 6 years old CANNOT participate in PURE ADVENTURE tour.
  • Those who have epilepsy, back problems, claustrophobia, heart conditions, dizziness, recent surgery or any other condition that may put life in risk are not allowed to participate in PURE ADVENTURE tour.

Absolute must, very friendly and informative guides. Paddling out during the day was great, we could see the mangroves and other wildlife. Would go again!

Our lead tour guide Javier was fantastic. He was extremely knowledgeable on the environment and even taught us about the stars! The bioluminescence is an incredible phenomenon. I highly suggest having previous kayak knowledge prior to doing this tour. My friend and I are moderately experienced kayakers so we were fine but many beginner kayakers on the tour seemed to struggle, especially because it is dark heading back.

We had an awesome time on our kayak trip with Eli! He was an expert at guiding us through the mangroves to the Laguna. Him and the other tour guides showed us star constellations and then once it was dark the bioluminescence. The glow was incredible to see and even sparkled all the way back through the mangrove trail. Would definitely recommend this tour group.

This was an amazing experience. We went at the 6 pm tour and it was perfect. We found it helpful to have the daylight while we were paddling out. This tour company has a large tarp that they will place over you so you can see the bioluminescence even with a full moon.
