Overview

Max weight per person is 220, to assure weight restriction is met, guests will be weighed on site. Come on the only tour that has a Marine Biologist as your tour guide. They will explain all the processes involved and the unique conditions required for this supernatural phenomena to occur. Your marine biologist will also explain how this delicate ecosystem maintains a pure balance and what must be done to preserve and protect the Bio Bay “Laguna Grande." It is a very special place on Planet Earth! All gear, snacks, pictures and kayak lessons are included. Minimum age  is 6 years old. Children under 6 years of age are not permitted on any of our tours.

Itinerary

Max weight per person is 220, to assure weight restriction is met, guests will be weighed on site. Prepare yourself for an experience of a lifetime! Keep in mind members should be able to row their own kayaks. Earlier tour is excellent for 1st-time kayakers, families with kids, & anyone that really enjoys being close to nature. As the sun goes down, you'll be able to enjoy the majestic view of the mangrove forest. Later Bio Bay tour is excellent for experienced kayakers. Expect total darkness. You'll be able to enjoy the tranquility of the lagoon under the night skies full of stars. All tours are led by an interpretive Marine Biologist trained in 1st Aid & CPR. The tour is suitable for everyone 6 years and up, but pregnant women cannot do this tour, no exceptions. This is a 2-person kayak tour. The max weight is 220 pounds per person. We have no single kayaks. To assure weight restriction is met, guests will be weighed on-site. Bio Bay trip includes all required safety equipment, specialized equipment, professional guides, water and light snacks, bug repellent, kayak “Lesson 101”, safety orientation, and a lot of fun! Bring extra clothing and a towel because you will get wet!

  • Kayaks have a weight limit of 220 lbs. per person. (NO exclusions) To assure weight restriction is met, guests will be weighed on-site.

  • For safety reasons pregnant women cannot participate. (NO exclusions)
  • Our kayaks are all tandem kayaks for two people - you are booking per person not per kayak. If one space is left, that means there is 1 space on a tandem kayak.
  • Guest under 18 yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult.
  • The owner of the service animal must provide a Licensed Life-vest by the Coast Guard for the animal. The animal must be in total control all the time. Keep in mind that there will be many people around in the dark.
  • Guest that are not able to complete the tour for any reason will not be provided a refund of any type.
  • All guests must be able to row their kayaks by themselves. One of the requirements is that you are able to get in and out of the kayak on your own and be able to maneuver it. If you are an unexperienced kayaker we highly suggest you choose the earlier tour.
  • If one space is left, that means there is 1 space (for 1 person) on a tandem kayak (No single kayaks available). You will be accompanied by another guest on the tour.
  • All guest must arrive 30 mins before the start of their tour. We respectfully will not accept or wait for any guest after this time.
  • If necessary, a tarp (canopy) may be used during the excursion to block any light pollution and enhanced the experience.
  • In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills
  • Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way.
  • Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary from minimal to very bright suddenly.
  • SPECIAL NOTE: We encourage our guests to not reserve the tour on the same day of arrival to the Island, including coming from Vieques or Culebra. If the FLIGHT or FERRY is delayed and the guest misses the tour the guest will not be entitled to a refund or rescheduling.
  • TOUR TIME might change depending on sunset time. If so we will send a reminder for updated meeting time.
  • No Expecting Mothers
  • For safety reasons, children under 6 years old CANNOT participate in PURE ADVENTURE tour.
  • Those who have epilepsy, back problems, claustrophobia, heart conditions, dizziness, recent surgery or any other condition that may put life in risk are not allowed to participate in PURE ADVENTURE tour.
  • Kayaks have a weight limit of 220 lbs. per person. (NO exclusions) To assure weight restriction is met, guests will be weighed on-site.
  • Not recommended for travelers with heart problems or other serious medical conditions
  • Our offices are closed on SUNDAYS - Reservations made Saturday after 5 pm will not be revised until Monday at 9 am. For cancellations request during this time please send us a message through Viator.

Excellent experience and knowledgeable tour guide. Must wear mosquito spray even over clothing. There’s seaweed when we went abd you have to walk through it! Very peaceful experience abd highly recommend!

Amazing Evening Journey

An amazing evening trip with friendly staff. You find yourself in a fairy tale, in the dark, making your way on a kayak along the river, the feeling is indescribable. And the lake, as if enchanted, glows from your movements. And the fish that cut under the water, leaving behind glowing lines. Thanks to everyone who organized this and take care of nature! Along the way, you can somehow magically illuminate the forest, not too much. Thanks for the fairy tale!

Well organized. Amazing tour guides, never felt unsafe. One of the guides I had was a biologist with a lot of insight about bioluminescence and astronomy. We were lucky enough that it wasn’t full moon and had a clear view of the bioluminescent organisms. Wouldn’t recommend for first time kayakers since its at night time. The tour provides natural insect repellent, make sure to use it.

We had such a fantastic time on the bioluminescence kayak tour! The entire experience was fun and well-organized from start to finish. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the tour guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and patient — especially since we had no prior kayaking experience. They guided us every step of the way, making sure we felt safe and enjoyed the magical glow of the water. A special shoutout to the sweet lady at the reception desk who not only greeted us warmly but also recommended a delicious local restaurant to try after our tour — it was the perfect end to the evening! Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area. The glow in the water is truly something you have to see to believe, and this company made the whole experience smooth and memorable.
