Overview

Our Medellin City Tour is the most complete of all. We visit some touristy areas that are probably in your bucket list but also some off-the-beaten-path places that very few tourists get to know. The day starts at your place where we pick you up in a private vehicle and from there we go to the center of Medellin where the tour takes place. This tour is a cool combination of using different means of transportation, walking around in safe but interesting areas, visiting historical places, markets, the oldest saloon of Medellin all this with guides trained in history to explain in detail everything you see on the tour. Remember, we are always flexible and can accommodate requests to tour any other sites in the city.   • Memory House Museum

    This museum offers you a unique insight into the history of Colombia´s armed conflict from the victims´ perspective, as well as the country´s positive outlook into the future. This stop gives you a more in-depth context about why, how and when the colombian conflict started with the guerillas, paramilitary groups and the Colombian army that has been involved in different massacres throughout the time.

  • Placita de Florez

    It is one of the oldest food markets in the city and this is the place to try some exotic fruits as well as get to know medicinal herbs to heal all kind of diseases. Did you know that Colombia is the most diverse country per square meter regarding to fruits? That is why we have incorporated in our Medellin City Tour a delicious stop. We will be walking among food kiosks and fruit stands where we will invite you to have a taste of the most tropical exotic fruits.

  • La Sierra

    From the food market we take the tramway. This is actually our third tram in Medellin, the first one was pulled by mules in 1887. This tram was finished in 2015 and since then has brought a huge benefit to the communities in the east sector of Medellin. After our 4.3 km ride in the tram, we reach the most recent aerial car line to fly over hundreds of houses. Throughout the flight your guide will talk about displaced settlements in Medellin and Colombia as well as how our social and health care system work to have more context about Medellin.

    Keeping our journey to Medellin´s history we find the Salón Málaga. The music, decoration, pictures, colors and everything in this saloon will make you feel like if you were back again in the 50´s.   • Centro Comercial Palacio Nacional

    Once the Medellin´s Courthouse, Palacio Nacional is now the most unusual shopping mall in the city and probably in the world. Many of the condemned people were committing suicide inside the building thus the local authorities decided to change the location and give a new use to this building. This is a great opportunity to buy Colombian clothing and souvenirs at a good price. Go ahead and prove your bargain skills!

  • Iglesia de la Veracruz

    Our next stop in our Medellin City Tour is nothing less than the second church built in Medellin in 1712 with the help of European immigrants. At this place you will also be introduced to an archaeological find from the colonial times and your tour guide will explain interesting facts about the church and it surroundings.

    An urban space that displays 23 sculptures of the illustrious son of Medellin, Master Fernando Botero. After walking around and appreciating the open-air museum, we head to the Cultural Palace, a beautiful neo-Gothic style building. At this place your guide tells you this building´s story while you admire the architectural beauty from inside.

Eye Opening Experience!

It took me over 6 months to plan this 6 day trip to Medellin. So many hotels and excursions to pick from. I kept changing my mind to maximize my stay. I usually start with a tour of the city, so we can figure out where to go. Tour of Medellin - "off the beaten path" was perfect. I highly recommend this tour so you can learn the history of the city and ask all the questions on where to go on your own, where is safe, best tours, local favorites, etc. This company has multiple trips, so check them out. Erika, our tour guide, is always early, always smiling, always fun, and just a great person to be around. She picked us up at our hotel (she's always early) and showed us all around the city central. We went to the museums, parks, shopping areas, took the city tram, and a cable car. We learned so much about the history and culture. We stopped a few times for street food and coffee too. Buñuelos! Just big ball of cheesy goodness for sure. This tour is a must! Tip: We wore shorts, and NO ONE does. It seems that only tourists do. I get hot, so I wore shorts. Medellin, everyone wears jeans or pants, and tops/shirts. Wear a good pair of walking shoes.

An amazing tour of the city center

Our tour with Erika was nothing short of AMAIZING. She promptly picked us up at our hotel and gave us an tour of the city. We started in the city center where she explained the history of Medellin to us. During our time in the city center she offered the option to change one of our stops to visit Commune 13. Since we were short on time (we were only in the city for the weekend) she mentioned that this was a must see part of the city. Boy were we glad that she gave us this option. Commune 13 was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Medellin. While there we had the opportunity to try the best local empanadas and Colombian delicacy's we had during our trip. We also saw some of the amazing art in the area. We loved it. Our tour with Erika was perfect, we would highly recommend that you plan your tours in Medellin with MedellinDayTrips.

The private tour was exactly what we needed! Alejandro (Alejo) was a very knowledgeable tour guide and gave us a mountain of information regarding each thing we saw & place we visited. Alejo provided us with a true five star experience. He also provided some of his experiences living in Medellin for many years. Our daughter wasn't feeling her best so we asked Alejo to tailor the tour somewhat - which he was more than willing. The tour company is definitely a class above so many others.

Art and history dream tour

Erika was our tour guide and we could not have been in better company! We visited the Botero plaza, el centro, the Museum of memory and then a trip on the city tram where we experienced striking views of Medellin. Erika is so knowledgeable and made the experience so much richer. We left even more in love with Medellin and its spirit of resilience and love. Thank you Erika!
