Overview

Stone town ( Old Town ) also known as Mji Mkongwe in a swahili language. Is the old part of Zanzibar City, the main and capital city of Zanzibar. That contains a huge history since the original Local people of Zanzibar, Persians, Portuguese then Sultanate of Oman. The newer portion of the city is known as Ng'ambo, Swahili for 'the other side'. Here you get full information about the History of Zanzibar, the slave trade in East Africa, and Old Stone Town. Also, you can see historical attractions and heritages that are available in a stone town like the House of Wonders, Old Fort, Freddy Mercury Museum , Forodhani Garden, Jaws Corner, Darajani Market, Anglican and Catholic church, and former slave market site. If that is not enough, you will experience the Arabic architectures, Indian architectures and local architectures without forgetting Arabic doors/windows, Indian doors/windows and Zanzibar local doors.

Alfa is a knowledgeable, energetic, good-natured and well-informed guide of Stone Town. He sets the historical context with clarity and talks and holds your interest as he walks you through the long history of the city. Particularly memorable is the installation and museum to slavery, which is worth the small additional charge. All in all, it is a brilliant way to start one's time in Stone Town and orientate oneself for the rest of the stay.

With incredible architecture and design from over 300 years, I recommend that travellers to Zanzibar spend a whole day touring the Stone Town. If you go, be prepared for persistent attention and an environment that may feel like our forefathers lived in a fascinating world as compared to the current world.
