    The Imperial Carriage Museum Vienna near Schönbrunn Palace invites you to take a walk through the history of Austria. See the carriages of famous rulers such as Maria Theresia, Napoleon or Franz Joseph and accompany them through their eventful lives. The highlight is the baroque Imperial Coach, but there are also exquisite state carriages, comfortable travelling coaches and the charming children’s carriages of Habsburg princes and princesses. The Sisi Trail in the Carriage MuseumFollow the life of Empress Elisabeth from her marriage to her tragic death Since 2008 visitors can enjoy the Sisi Trail laid out in the main gallery of the Carriage Museum, and follow the life of Empress Elisabeth from her wedding to her tragic death illustrated by her carriages and unique original mementos. On show are, for example, the coach she rode in as an imperial bride, the charming carriages of her children, the golden Imperial Coach she used at her coronation as queen of Hungary, the carriage she alighted from just minutes before her assassination in Geneva, and the impressive black hearse that bore her to her final resting place. These carriages are displayed together with portraits, paintings and unique objects that once belonged to Sisi: the sumptuous black robe with endless train, designed for the empress by Fanny Scheiner c. 1885, has iconic status among Sisi-fans; it documents the slender figure of this famous beauty celebrated for her tiny waist. On show are also the only extant saddle used by the empress (regarded as the best horsewoman of her time) and her reconstructed “riding chapel” comprising portraits of her favorite horses.

Fantastic tour of the royal carriage collection, from Sisi’s funeral hearse to Napoleon III crib a really wonderful side track of Schönbrunn palace

Beautiful carriages

Beautiful museum situated within the grounds of Schonbrunn Palace. Small and doesn’t take too long to look around but definitely worth a look, especially if you have the Vienna pass because it’s included on it. It has some beautiful carriages from all different eras of Vienna. Some rather eerie all in black as funeral carriages; and some very grand and sparkly. Also houses some collections of uniforms and dresses.

The total range of displays. Well worth while spending an hr or more after walking the gardens just to get an idea of the grandeur of the inhabitants of the castle.I was surprised at the number of carriages on display,from the coronation coach to tha huge sombre funeral carriage.

A very pleasant small museum, which is what it says on the tin - perhaps fifty early horse drawn carriages plus related ephemera very well explained and presented - a credit to the palace and to the Habsburg Empire that it celebrates.

Not the huge crowd of the palace or garden, photos were allowed, and staff was great. It was worth the few extra steps from the palace to see the carriages and mystery dress.
