Overview

Just 40 minutes from Lisbon, come with us to visit two wineries belonging to producers in the Setúbal region. On this Tour you will have two visits that will show you the entire history of both farms, their families and traditions. You will taste between 6 and 7 different wines, including the exclusive Moscatel Roxo de Setúbal, and you will also have the opportunity to buy wines in stores. Cellars may alternate depending on availability. In the world of wine, no other producing country has as much diversity of products as Portugal. With more than 200 exclusive grapes, made their natural habitat in Portuguese lands, the diversity presented by Portuguese wine is quite wide and highly qualitative.     A family business with almost two centuries of history that, without ever resting on the glories conquered, has been able to modernize. José Maria da Fonseca has been operating wine since 1834, the fruit of the shared passion of a family that has preserved and projected the memory and prestige of its founder. Conscious of the responsibility of being the oldest producer of table wine and Moscatel de Setúbal in Portugal, José Maria da Fonseca has a philosophy of permanent development, which makes it invest more and more in research and of production, combining the most modern techniques with traditional knowledge. An example of this is the Adega José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Alentejo, where the Roman tradition of fermenting in clay pots keeps abreast of the latest technology.

  • Bacalhoa Vinhos de Portugal

    In 1997, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, then known as JP Vinhos, moved from Pinhal Novo to the Azeitão wine region in the heart of the Setúbal Peninsula and settles into an emblematic building designed and built by António d'Avillez , symbol of modernity anchored in tradition. The building is a glazed hexagon where innovative solutions for design and execution have been found, both in the cellar area and in the office area. They reveal a creativity and a sense of efficiency where they marry the magical and traditional environment of the cellars where lie thousands of bottles and a real armada of barrels of wine stage.

Anna was very prompt to pick us up. She was patient during the trip. She allowed us sufficient time to ask questions and try different wines. She knew the wineries well and explained the background . She as easy to talk to.

Ana was such a pleasure. She is very informative about where she comes from and knows a lot about history. We really enjoyed this wine tour. We were running a little bit behind from the first tour and almost missed the second one so, when we arrived at the second location, Ana figured out a way to still get us into the second winery with a mini tour and we were able to have our tasting. 10/10 recommends.

the Jose Maria de Fonseca winery was wonderful! lovely museum and setting. Wine was also good! :-) Learned a lot from this - not only about the Fonseca wines, but about Portuguese wines in general. Our tour guide (I think her name was Anna) was really knowledgeable, and we had a great time. The second winery, Bacalhoa, had very nice wines as well, but not a winery tour - just a tasting room. the tour transportation was provided by LRS, which was also excellent. If I were to change anything, i would allow for some more time in Azeitao, which looked charming, but didn't really get a chance to explore.

Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgable. He provided an helpful overview of the country, its history and its wines. He also introduced us to tascas as a great way to eat like locals do. Great experience all round.

Ana, our host, was very sweet. She even arrived at our hotel a little early to see if we were ready so we could avoid too much delay with the heavy traffic. She got us to the winery on time for the tour, and the tour was very nice as well.
