Overview

Meet San Sebastian's most interesting spots by walking across its historic area! Join our local guides and do not miss any of the secrets that this emblematic city hides, learning every detail of its buildings and its people. Departing from the border of Old and New Towns (where the 19th century city walls were built!) we will take you through the serpentine Old Town streets, visiting the two main churches and the pintxo streets. Later on we will show you the expansion of the city during the early 20th century with the influence of the Spanish Queen Maria Cristina in the construction of many of San Sebastian's most characteristic buildings such as Hotel de Londres and Maria Cristina (named after her), the catherdal of Buen Pastor (Good Shepherd), the Tabakalera museum, Victoria Eugenia auditorium and many more. This activity includes a pintxo round in a traditional bar in La Parte Vieja, the Old Town!

We loved the walking tour...

We loved the walking tour of San Sebastián! Fabian, our guide, answered all our questions related to the tour, and related to San Sebastián. We learned a lot! It was a cloudy/rainy day then, and only 3 of us (4 with the guide) did the walking tour. Fabian looked for shelter areas near the key landmarks to give us background and perspective. Even my daughters - 23 & 19 got so engaged that they asked a lot of Qs as well. We appreciated San Sebastián more with this tour!

Took this tour to be more familiar with Donostia San Sebastián as this is my first time truly visiting this beautiful city. Fabian was our guide and he spent two hours giving us tons of historical information about the city and pointing out interesting historical details as still seen today. I definitely had a deeper understanding of Donostia San Sebastián and greatly appreciated Fabian’s profound historical knowledge intertwining our two hour informative walk from the new town to the old town to end with a pintxo and a drink at Restaurante Gandarias… tour worth taking if you want an introduction or to learn more about the history and culture of Donostia San Sebastián!

Outstanding Walking Tour

This morning my wife and I went on a tour of San Sebastián, along with another couple, hosted by the brilliant Usua. This was not a typical tourist tour, but an incredibly insightful explanation of the history of the city and the Basque region. We walked through the city whilst Usua detailed the history almost from biblical times, including the story, or myth, of Saint Sebastian. She explained how the city suffered from invasion from French, British and Portuguese soldiers. Yet the will of the local Basques prevailed, as Usua explained. She even took us through the architectural history, including complete destruction by invaders though the Belle Epoque, to the 20th Century. I am unsure if Usua is the best guide in San Sebastián, but I doubt there is a better one. We felt we had been given a real lesson in history in all its senses. If you visit the wonderful city, take a walking tour with Usua, or one of her colleagues. We even finished with a drink and a pintxos and an idea of where to eat later. Thank you.
