We were met by Carleen at the Port of Tauranga. She is a passionate local with alot of local knowledge. She took us to the local falls where white river rafting was happening, introduced us to various native plants used by the indigenous, showed us the silver fern, took us to the Blue Lake and Green Lake and the Red Wood Forest as well as Sulphur Point and the Botanic Gardens to see the mud pools and hot water pools where you could soak your feet. We also heard stories about the pink and white terraces that once adorned Mt Tarawera.
