Overview

Guimarães, the birthplace of the nation and a UNESCO World Heritage site, exudes a medieval atmosphere with its 10th-century castle and 15th-century Ducal Palace. A stroll through the heart of the city's streets and squares will immerse you in the palpable charm and rich history of Guimarães. During our visit, we'll explore the imposing castle, admire the majestic Dukes of Bragança Palace, and wander through the historic center. After a relaxing lunch break included in the tour, we'll continue our journey to Braga, known as the oldest Portuguese city and the religious capital of Portugal. For centuries, Braga has been a prominent archiepiscopal seat and pilgrimage site. Our exploration of Braga will include a visit to its 11th-century Cathedral, followed by a tour of the Bom Jesus Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage site nestled in the scenic hills surrounding the city. Enjoyable day trip with Piedro to Guimaraes and Braga.

Prompt pickup at hotel. Loved Guimaraes downtown stroll. Piedro was very friendly and did an excellent job meeting various special dietary needs in our group with Vegans and Pescatarians . The food was outstanding His command of English was excellent as were his driving skills. It was a pleasure to converse with him during the long drive.

What a great tour! Jose was my guide and he was so friendly and knowledgeable about everything. Barga and Guimãres are very special and beautiful - I’m so glad I took this tour. Lunch was delicious as was the special sweets we had in Guimãres. I highly recommend!

What an amazing place Guimaraes is as the birthplace of Portugal. A UNESCO site with medieval buildings & narrow streets lined with cobblestones. History is wonderful! Braga is truly amazing too filled with religious history. So much to see in a few hours! Lunch at a local restaurant was delicious! Loved it Our guide Alvaro was knowledgeable & explained everything in excellent English! Thank you

What a great Tour. From beginning with the ease of a Hotel pickup to the wonderful gourmet lunch in Braga, to a fabulous tour guide, to the finish in Guimaraes and the surprise bakery stop. Super day out. Two historical medieval towns and the Bom Jesus! The day was fabulous Jose; you are a tour guide supreme! Legendary; like the Rooster! Thanks Cool Tours.

Two lovely cities north of Porto. Especially Guimarães could deserve more time but this does give you good ideas for the future visits. I like small groups as they are more flexible and move faster. Rodrigo the guide knew his stuff and time was well spent.
