  • Pompeii Archaeological Park

    The ruins of Pompeii are a vast archaeological site in the southern Campania region, near the coast of the Gulf of Naples. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The preserved site features remains of excavated streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.

  • Foro de Pompeya

    The Civil Forum is the centre of daily life in the city, on it are all the main public buildings for the administration of the city and justice, for the management of business, for commercial activities, as markets, in addition to the main places of worship in the city.

  • Tempio di Giove Capitolino

    The Temple of Jupiter dominates the northern side of the Forum, and behind it stands scenographically the Vesuvius. With the deduction of the colony (80 BC) the temple was the subject of a radical remaking and became a real Capitolium, with three statues of worship of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, imitating those of the Capitolium of Rome, placed on a high base, So that they are visible to those who passed through the square of the Forum.

    The Macellum of Pompeii was nothing more than the town market where people could buy groceries. Located north-east of the Forum, the complex had to remain away from the square not to create too much crowding, given the large number of people who certainly frequented it.

    Via dell'Abbondanza is one of the main streets of the ancient city of Pompeii, in Campania, which connected the Forum with the Amphitheatre.

  • Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane)

    The Stabiane Baths were built at various times. The initial phase of construction dates back to IV a.c. (the gym with the trapezoid base). The baths that we can admire today were built in the II sec a.c., a period when Pompeii was subjected to a major renovation. In the spa, not only did you take a bath, but you also discussed politics, battles, trials, women.... It was the town hall where the facts of the day were discussed.

    The Pompeii Lupanare, with its erotic paintings is one of the most famous buildings of the excavations and had the function of brothel.

    The Great Theatre of Pompeii was built by the Romans on the slope of a hill; they exploited the natural depression of the mountain to create a majestic auditorium divided into 5 sectors. On stage, tragedies of the Greco-Roman tradition were represented.

A day at Pompeii

Had a great time visiting Pompeii with my friend . We had a very good guide he was very thorough & knowledgeable & gave us extra time for pictures & to look around on our own . Lunch was included & was at a very nice restaurant. Then we took the bus again & drove to the lower part of the Vesuvio and hiked all the way up .What an incredible view from that trail. I highly recommend this tour .

This was a terrific tour! We learned so much history while touring Pompeii--the ancient city is a marvel. Our main guide, Marcella, was fabulous. Our guide at Pompeii was a bit hard to understand at times (because of his accent), but he was extremely knowledgeable, and did a great job of getting us through the crowds (especially when other guides lingered too long ahead of us). We had great fun hiking to the top of Vesuvius, and lunch at the lovely winery provided a nice respite.
