Overview

On this full-day private tour, travel from Vienna to Salzburg and explore the Wachau region, which is recognized by UNESCO, and the Salzkammergut Lake Region. Highlights of the itinerary include visits to the picturesque village of Duernstein, where you can learn about the Robin Hood legend, Lake Attersee, which served as the model for many of Gustav Klimt's landscape paintings, and the quaint community of Mondsee, home to the church from the Sound of Music. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation in Salzburg; if desired, you can take the train back (2h20min). • Since this is a private tour, the itinerary can be customized • Lunch is not included in the price, but time will be allotted for it • During one exciting day, get a comprehensive introduction to some of Austria's major attractions. • The tour includes door-to-door transportation from your Vienna hotel to your Salzburg hotel • Optional return by train in only 2 ½ hours

  • Historic Center of Vienna (Pass By)

    Get ready for pick up at 10:00 am and hop on board of your luxury tour vehicle. Lean back and experience the beautiful drive along the Danube River valley.

  • Restaurant Schloss Dürnstein

    Duernstein is a small Austrian town, located in the gorgeous Wachau region. Explore Duernstein and the Legend of Robin Hood. Richard the Lionheart Richard was captured shortly before Christmas 1192 near Vienna, it was here at the Castle of Duernstein, where Richard was kept captive. Lunch will be at your own expense but there will be ample of time to go to one the many local restaurants, choose between an typical inn or a Micheline star restaurant.

  • Melk Abbey

    Melk Abbey is one of the biggest and most beautiful European Baroque ensembles. Its splendid architecture is famous worldwide and part of UNESCO’s world cultural heritage. The Baroque building situated on a rock overlooking the Danube, in the Wachau region, ranks as one of Austria’s most visited art-historical sites.

  • Lake Attersee

    The tour will continue to Lake Attersee. Enjoy the drive along the entire lake from Seewalchen to the lakeside village of Unterach at lake Attersee. Unterach, sometimes referred to as "Little Venice" in the 19th century, is situated at the southern end of Lake Attersee. The world known artist Gustav Klimt was spending every summer between 1900 and 1916 at Lake Attersee and most of his landscape pictures were painted here.

Exceptional Tour from Salzburg to Vienna

We traveled with Manfred from Salzburg to Vienna through the Wachau Valley, and saw all of the beauty along the way. Manfred showed us sparkling lakes, vineyards, the Danube river, and old towns. He knows all of the stops along the way. Our group found this day to be a highlight of our entire trip. Having Manfred plan the tour, and escort us to these places made this area accessible to us which was a really unique way to experience this part of Austria. I enthusiastically recommend this tour with Manfred!

Our guide was perfect, very personable and had great recommendations. Going up to the castle ruins will no doubt be a highlight of our trip. We considered taking a train and I am so glad that we chose this route instead. We got to see more than the two main cities (Vienna and Salzburg) and that deepened the experience of our whole trip.

Our trip could not have gone better. Manfred is an exceptional guide. New everything about everything. We are extremely interested in all thing "Sound of Music" and he had all the answers, took us to secret spots for amazing pictures, and left us with smiles on our faces. We have him booked for tomorrow to complete our "Sound of Music" experience and we have no doubt that he will fulfill our desires. It seems he knows the exact place of every scene from the movie.
