Overview

Spend a day in the Alps and visit the Eagle's Nest, 'The Where Eagle's Dare Castle' of Werfen and admire at the Golling Waterfalls. Next to the historical Eagle's Nest the 11th century Fortress Hohenwerfen, one of the most magnificent mountain fortifications in the Alps, is another top highlight of this 8-hour private tour from Salzburg. From April 1st to about May 10th (depends on the snow conditions of the year), the Eagle's Nest direct access road is closed, alternatively we offer to visit the Rossfeld summit instead. From this vantage point, soak in panoramic views of the stunning Austrian and Bavarian Alps and the nearby Eagle's Nest. Feel free to choose this option also when Eagle's Nest is opened if you prefer a much less crowded, more local site than the Eagle's Nest.

    Meet your professional local guide and driver at your Salzburg hotel and hop on board of your luxury minivan. Afterward, your journey will take you on a scenic route to the Obersalzberg Region. Dive deeper into the area's history with a visit to the Obersalzberg and the Berghof ruins. The Berghof, located at 3000 ft elevation, was Hitler’s former mountain residence at the Obersalzberg.

    From the Obersalzberg you will access the Eagle's Nest with special busses and elevator. You will have 2 hours at the Eagle's Nest. Take a stroll to the very close summit Kehlstein to overlook the picturesque Bavarian and Austrian Alps. From November 1st, 2020 until about May 10th, 2021 (depends on the snow conditions of the year), the Eagle's Nest direct access road is closed alternatively, we offer to visit the Rossfeld summit instead.     Castle of Werfen is one of the most magnificent mountain fortifications in the Alps and was also used in the “Where Eagle’s Dare” movie with Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood. It was the castle of Werfen which was used as Eagle’s Nest, not the original location at the Bavarian Alps. Enjoy some good Austrian lunch right at the castle before you will marvel at the bird-of-prey show conducted by historic State Falconers, mainly featuring native free-flying raptors!

    The Sound of Music meadow (Do-Re-Mi), at the hills above the village Werfen, is offering a stunning view over the Salzach river valley and the castle of Werfen. Return to your Salzburg accommodation or city center of Salzburg at the end of the day.

Awe-Inspiring

What a terrific experience. The locations were as you would expect; surreal & full of thoughtful history. But Manfred, our guide, added a hue we didn't anticipate. As you embark on a tour in an unfamiliar place with an unfamiliar new face, Manfred's demeanor was positively engaging out of the gate. What a treat to experience a tour with a guide so committed to the experience and genuinely engaged as if you were old acquaintances. Really; very nice work. Highly recommended. Excellent All-Day Private Tour!

We had a wonderful all-day private tour with Patrick! We were not able to visit The Eagle's Nest because an earlier snowfall and avalanche blocked access to the hilltop site. Instead, Patrick offered a couple of options and we chose to visit the beautiful Gollinger Wasserfall. The historic Werfen Castle was so majestic and interesting. As another added treat, Patrick took us to the site of Hitler's original home! We also had a nice lunch at a rooftop restaurant in a nearby town. Throughout our drive Patrick pointed out local landmarks and told us interesting information about the area. His genuine friendliness and enthusiasm made it a truly enjoyable day. We would highly recommend this tour!

We spent a lovely day with Patrick touring Hoenwerfen Castle and the Eagles Next area. We had the most amazing time! The tour was filled with great information, interesting stories, and enough time at local attractions that we were able to immerse ourselves in the history and experience. Patrick went above and beyond to follow up with us after the tour to share restaurant and local dish recommendations (after hearing us talk about our desire to have a more local experience). We tried several of his recommendations and it was the best food of the trip. We would rate the tour 10 full stars if we could!

Exceptional Day Out

A fantastic day out, Our host Manfred was exceptional. You could see his passion for making our experience a memorable one. Although not able to make Werfen we were able to arrange a trip to the salt mines at short notice. Manfred added extra parts to the trip at the Eagles Nest which was fascinating. Thanks again great day!

Most enjoyable day as we headed into the mountains. Our guide the very hospitable Lena took us on a journey though the spectacular countryside. Giving us great insight into the history whilst also engaging in conversations where we got a great feel for Austria and its culture. Tour also included a booking at a fabulous restaurant with views of our destination and some sizable surprises which blew our minds along the way. (Took their Salzburg Lake District and Hallstatt tour the next day, just as amazing) Highly recommend this family run tour company. Great people who clearly take pride and enjoy what they do.
