Overview

Ōtautahi, Christchurch, a city of exploration, where urban regeneration, culture and heritage thrives. Constantly evolving, giving visitors something new to explore. Take in views of the newest city in New Zealand. See the lush greenery of the “Garden City” . Hagley Park, Botanic Gardens & Deans Bush/ Pūtaringamotu, home to native bush forest featuring kahikatea trees that are up to 600 years old. The central city a mixture of new urban precincts & old historic buildings that have been restored after the earthquakes. View the Christchurch Cathedral as it is rebuilt. The red zone of Christchurch, once filled with homes now a holistic project to connect people, river and land, now known as the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor project. Onto the Port Hills, Banks Peninsula to view extinct volcanoes making up Akaroa and Diamond Harbours. A coastline view north of Pegasus Bay as you travel over Sumner and New Brighton Beaches towards the stunning Southern Alps and farmed Canterbury Plains.

    After a safety briefing, Depart from our helibase at Christchurch International Airport by helicopter to view Otautahi, Christchurch from the air.

  • Christchurch Botanic Gardens (Pass By)

    An aerial view of the many green spaces of Ōtautahi, Christchurch. Such as: Dean Bush, The Red Zone and Hagley Park. Within Hagley Park is the Christchurch Botanical Gardens. A 21 hectare park with more than 10 different gardens framed by mature trees and expansive lawns, which are mostly contained within a loop of the Avon River.

  • Christchurch Cathedral (Pass By)

    Christchurch Cathedral is the focal point of Cathedral Square in the heart of Otautahi, Christchurch. This place of Anglican worship, which was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquake. View down on the repair work being done to restore this city landmark.

  • Avon River (Pass By)

    Look down on the red zone of Christchurch, once filled with homes prior to the earthquakes and now a holistic project to connect people, river and land, now known as the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor project

  • Lyttelton Harbour (Pass By)

    Look down on Lyttelton Harbour / Whakaraupō, one of two major inlets of Banks Peninsula. A harbour formed by an ancient volcano that has been flooded by the sea. A busy port for the city of Christchurch.

We had a great time! Jake was not only a wonderful pilot, but a fabulous “tour guide” as well. He shared lots of information regarding Christchurch and the surrounding area. It was a fabulous first helicopter ride… would definitely do it again!
