Our Canvas Co-op guide Renard was fantastic, understated and knowledgeable, not reciting a canned script but genuinely engaging with the group as we saw sides of Bruxelles that are not on the touristic itinerary: greenways through neighborhoods, the underground cemetery adjacent to the north side neogothic basilica, the repurposed 19th C Tour et Taxi multimodal transport hub, which is being transformed into a private multi-use development, and an excursion into the Art Deco architecture as featured in the musical instrument museum on le Mont des Arts. Sturdy bikes for city streets and gravel pathways, all unfolding at a leisurely pace. We highly recommend this orientation to a diverse city that has much to offer beyond the international institutional headquarters and ‘peeing’ statuary!
