Overview

This Tour will give you a quick insight into the rich and complex history of Barcelona. On a relaxed walk through the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter we will follow the footsteps of its ancestors and learn more about different epochs and personalities that shaped the history of this heroic city over 2000 years. Founded by the Romans in 1c.BC, Barcelona still embraces part of its origins inside the medieval buildings. During prosperous times of Kingdom of Aragon, it was one of central ports of medieval Sea-trade with many merchant and diplomatic delegations established in the city. The Jewish community, living in El Call, also helped in consolidation of culturally rich and cosmopolitan spirit over centuries until 1492, when Iberian Peninsula stopped being homeland for all 3 religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Eventually we will learn more about the political changes after the War of Spanish Succession (1702-1715), still echoing today.

    Part of the Roman Temple to Augustus is hidden inside of medieval house behind the cathedral. We will stop on what used to be the center of Roman Barcelona decoding its 2000 years of history

    Medieval Royal Palace where Columbus was received by Spanish Kings after the discovery of America in 1492

  • Palau De La Generalitat De Catalunya

    Political center of the city with Parlament building and Town Hall will bring us back to the actual situation of Catalan social and political movements, very connected to the historical events in the past.

    La Rambla is the name of Arabic origin, when this street was still outside of the city walls. In later periods it became the heart of the city, and as locals say "If you haven´t been to La Rambla, you haven´t been in Barcelona"

Excellent 2-day tour of Barcelona

My wife and I had a great 2-day tour of Barcelona with Maria who expertly structured the tours to meet our request that the pace be leisurely, not too tiring and a maximum of 4 hours per day. Maria had limousine to drive us around Barcelona with stops on important sites such as the Montjuic Hill, Olympic stadium, Casa Batllo, La Pedrera and the La Sagrada Familia Cathedral. Maria walked us around the old town and introduced us to some Catalan cuisine. I strongly recommend Maria if you are looking for private and customized tours.

Maria was awesome! She knows all the ins and out of Barcelona and took us to ll the places we wanted to see. Her knowledge of the history of the city was amazing. Her passion for the city made our tour very exciting. Maria was punctual in picking us up and made sure we weren't rushed as we had an older person in our group. She spent half a day with us and also had a driver take us on a scenic tour around the city. I would recommend her in a flash!
