Join this 2-hour walking tour and explore the city’s historic Jewish Quarter. Hear all about the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands from 1940 untill 1945 and how it affected those living in Amsterdam and especially the Jewish community. Discover the Portuguese Synagogue, the Jewish Historical Museum and stroll by the Headquarters of the Jewish Council. Learn how the Dutch behaved towards the Jews of Amsterdam and how the people endured the hunger winter and the Febuary strike as you pass sites like the Auschwitz Monument and the Dokwerker. Finally the tour ends in front of the Anne Frank House, where you’ll learn more about her best-selling diary, how it was published by her father Otto Frank and how it gained worldwide fame.

A must-do in Amsterdam

This walking tour was the best thing we did on the visit. It was thought provoking, interesting and showed great insight into the lives and suffering of the Jewish people in the Netherlands. James was an excellent guide, extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. I saw the city in a new light through his insights. I would definitely recommend this tour.

A really worthwhile experience

The tour guide was very knowledgeable. He showed us sites that we may well have missed. He related really well with all participants and given the nature of some of the sites he checked in on our wellbeing. The tour was good value for money and instructions were very clear.

Our tour guide Aaron is an Irish native who was a history major. While he has only lived in Amsterdam for a few years, he has extensive knowledge of the Jewish history of the Netherlands. He communicated it well and with sensitivity. He took us to significant sites. The highlight was the Holocaust memorial wall with the names of the 102,000 Jews from the area who were killed.
