Visit the iconic Central Market, housed in historic Zeppelin hangars, where you'll dive into the world of Latvian food - learn about the flavors that define Latvian cuisine.
Then, head to the towering Academy of Sciences, one of Riga’s most striking Soviet-era landmarks, offering a fascinating look at the city’s history and culture from a different perspective.
Next, we’ll visit the Latgale Suburb (formerly known as the Moscow Suburb), an area that’s been rebranded to reflect the evolving identity of Riga. This neighborhood offers a unique window into Latvia’s complex geopolitical history and the blending of cultures in the modern city. This is your chance to see the real Riga — a place where the past and present intertwine in ways few tourists ever experience!

St. Peter's Church
We will meet at the front door of Riga's tallest church - St. Peter's.

Riga Central Market
We will walk through the 5 market halls of Europe's former largest indoor market. The halls - largely created from materials originally used for Zepellin hangars - are iconic in Riga's landscape. Latvian cuisine will be discussed.

We can take an elevator up to the viewing platform to get a fantastic view of Riga ( subject to working hours. Admission not included)

Great Choral Synagogue Memorial
We will see the remains of Riga's choral synagogue. Jewish history in Riga will be discussed.

Freedom Monument
We will end the tour at Latvia's most famous monument - a tribute to our independence built using donations from the citizens in the 1930s.

Edvard was exceptionally personable, highly knowledgeable about history, geography, cultural, and current affairs. Our time with Edvard flew by as we walked Riga. He provided suggestions for meals, local food dishes, and offered a wonderful overview of the country and city.
