Overview

The 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour was founded in 1996 by Lorcan Collins, author, historian and Dubliner. This two hour walking tour meets daily at The International Bar where participants receive a copy of the 1916 Proclamation and some explanatory literature. After a brief introduction to the build up to the Easter Rising of 1916 the tour then visits the sites of the revolutionary period including the GPO, City Hall and Dublin Castle. The tour also covers the War of Independence when Michael Collins battled for Irish freedom from 1919-21 and also includes a discussion on the Irish Civil War, 1922-23. The tour is highly educational but also great fun and very interactive. Prior knowledge of events is not required.

Perfect pace and level of detail. Adam is a pro at what he does and he had great passion and delivery. This is exactly what a history tour should be. I would recommend this tour to both history buffs and novices!

We did the 1916 Rebellion walking tour with Adam and it was honestly one of the highlights of my time in Dublin. He was fantastic – super knowledgeable, engaging, and made the history really come alive. Whether you know nothing about Irish history or a fair bit, you’ll get a lot out of it. Highly recommend! Excellent way to spend a few hours in Dublin.

Out of all the experiences I had in Dublin, this is the one I would recommend the most, especially if you’re interested in history. Our tour guide, Phelim, was exceptionally knowledgeable and insightful, and I appreciate that he didn’t speak euphemistically about the oppression faced by the Irish people. A great way to orient yourself on Irish history.

A brilliant tour! I have done many excellent history tours over the years and this is one of the best I have ever experienced. Our tour guide Adam Ladd was a master in setting the scene and putting events into context before delivering a concise and factual description of all relevant historical locations and people associated with the 1916 revolution. Moreover, he made it extremely interesting at the same time. Completely captivated for the full duration. Could not recommend this tour highly enough. *****
