Where to start? The diving, of course, was exceptional. They highlight was definitely the night dive with the Manta Rays. The crew set the scene so beautifully with the boat light and torches to create an experience I will never forget. The cruise itself was marvelous. The crew from the dive boat to the kitchen were all friendly and without excessive formality which made me feel welcome and able to ask for anything. The food was really good, we had eggs cooked to order every morning and they even freshly baked cakes for special occasions (one being my diving century). Super clean, super comfortable. Definitely book with them.
Unfortunately I didn’t have the best experience with UI Maldives. First, the meeting time was 8:30 and check in staff didn’t arrive until 9:00 which was the start of the tour. I spent time looking around the jetty, asking people and thought the tour was cancelled as no one was at there at the stated reporting time, and well after. Second, the boat arrived at 9:30 and the tour was supposed to start at 9:00. Delays are expected and okay, but there was no communication around this. We checked in and were just waiting for further instructions. Third, the tour leader wasn’t the best unfortunately. I asked if a guide could stay close to me as I’m not great at swimming in currents to which he said to get in and practice and if needed a guide will help! Especially as on another tour the leader assigned guides to poor ocean swimmers. The life jacket was entirely ripped on one side and they didn’t have another one my size. I tried contacting them multiple times via Viatour ahead of the tour and received no response. I’m sure there might be positive experiences for others, but I didn’t have the best experience on tour or in dealing with the company prior to the tour, so I wouldn’t recommend this company/ experience.
Secret Paradise was wonderful and thorough when organizing my Male tour with Shaffaf! He went above and beyond to ensure I had a great visit and even though we encountered a lot of rain at the beginning (he got us raincoats at a nearby shop) we were able to explore so much in a short time. He went the extra mile by making sure I got some vegan food and made my flight on time. I highly recommend this company as they really take great care of their clients.
We were looking for some Snorkeling trip on the day before we’re going back to Thailand. Unfortunately the weather on that day was bad so we can’t make it in the morning. However, Everybody of UI helps us to find another program which is we can make it at noon when the rain was gone. So finally we can go on a trip and staffs on a boat are so kind and gentle. Thank you so much we would love to go back for sure.
We 4 friends went for scuba diving from mafushi islands maldives. We book our scuba diving day tour from arena hotels. Price is approx 120 to 130 dollars including photo videos n scuba gear. I had really wonderful experience. Guides are very profession and friendly. Best part is that you dont need to be swimmer to do this tour. Guide will make you very comfortable inside water jist follow thier instructions. All scuba gear was upto mark. Water is crystal clear and underwater scenery fishes and other marine life is very beautiful. Scuba diving duration is approxinataley 15 min. Maldives all activities are cheap and best.
A walking tour was a lovely way to visit Male and Villemale. Our guides English was limited but we managed. The down fall was when our guide directed us to a restaurant and recommended was order a particular dish. This was on a separate menu. We assumed the price listed was in local currency like the other menu .The guide was also told us he was going to take us to his uncles shop after lunch, not usually part of the tour but we did not want to say no. Fortunately, the guide was called away in the middle of lunch to start the afternoon tour so we were able to avoid the shopping excursion. When the bill arrived we were charged in USD ($200 verses the expected around $40 USD). The meal was passable but not even close to value for money. Complete ripe off! While the guide turned out to be a little sketchy the tour owner was very honest. We rang him when this ridiculous bill was presented. He arrived within 5 minutes. Resolved the problem by refunding the tour price which resulted in us paying the same amount as if we had simply purchased a USD$40 lunch. (lunch was not included in the tour). The owner, walked with us back to the port and notified his other guides to avoid this restaurant. Tour operator was a stand up fellow.
We booked this activity for our visit on a cruise ship. There were 4 retired couples on board a modern speed boat. We were picked up at the pier by Archie, put into 2 taxis and driven to the boat. A ten minute boat ride got us to the first snorkel spot and provided with mask, fins and floatation vest. We were well prepped as to our dive along a reef edge. There were two guides in the water with us; one leading and the other following. We spotted small sharks, clown, zebra fish and others. After about a half hour we got back into the boat to go to the second site. There we saw rays, eels and other different fish. The third spot was a leisurely drift snorkel along another reef where we just floated in a slow current along the reef to the boat. The boat driver and two divers were very attentive to our various swimming abilities. We all felt very safe, supported and enjoyed the experience and highly recommend it.
We were driven in a taxis from Male tender port to Hulhumale to board a speedboat to Huraa, This island is where the Four Seasons Resort is located. The claim to fame is that there’s a natural pond with mangrove trees. Saw lots of holes in the sandy area and was told that they were dug by small crabs. Also visited a small home production of tuna sauce. Basically tuna fish bones with some flesh still attached were boiled down in huge pots. Had lunch at a restaurant near where the speedboat was parked.
One has to take a ferry boat to Villinmale in Male. The journey is around twenty minutes, Villinmale on map is just east of Male and on Google map is shown as Villinggili. But because a bridge linking Male is being built, it will be called Villinmale just like the island with the airport is called Hulhumale. Only electric motorbikes and buses are allowed on this island. Due to the effort of the NGO organization to educate the students, this island is more ecologically conscious and there’s much less strewn plastic bottles and garbage. The NGO taught students can learn scuba diving to restore the coral beds and to care for the environment and have now in turn able to educate others as well as going into marine related careers. This island is not big as it took about five thousand steps to walk around. This is the first time I’ve seen and tasted Sea Almonds. Coral restoration seems to be making progress. One method is using hexagonal shaped and coated rebars to anchor bits of corals. The students know that their islands are there because of the corals and the beaches are also related to corals. I hope the success of this NGO’s work can be populated to other islands.
Really a very special experience! We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to explore local islands, and to learn about the rich history and culture of the Maldives and also to have learned about the unique economic opportunities, as well as the ecological challenges related to expanding development and tourism. We were so grateful for the exceptional qualities our guide, UB, brought to our experience. He was extremely knowledgeable, skilled, flexible, attentive to needs and also fun loving. How fortunate we were! We had wonderful experiences fishing, snorkelling, meeting local people and experiencing local food and culture. Our experience of the Maldives was so rich as a result of this trip and the wonderful qualities our guide contributed.
It was really amazing to snorkel with the nurse sharks and pink whip rays. The rays and sharks come so close that they even touch you with their fins and tail. The speedboat brought me quickly to the right spot in the southern Male Atoll where we had enough time for snorkeling. I got videos and pictures that the crew made with a GoPro and drone as a nice memory of an absolutely amazing and well-organized adventure. I can really recommend this excursion to everyone. I wouldn't have wanted to miss it!
