Overview

Travel back four centuries in time to the colony of New France as you tour Old Quebec City with your “cicerone,” or guide dressed in period costume. Experience a unique 2-hour walking adventure through the heart of this UNESCO world heritage site. IMPORTANT: Please note that this tour takes place rain or shine, every day of the year.

  • Terrasse Dufferin

    The Dufferin Terrace, a long wooden sidewalk located next to the Château Frontenac, affords a stunning view of the St. Lawrence River and surrounding area. It is a wonderful place to visit at any time of the year.

  • Notre Dame De Quebec Basilica Cathedral (Pass By)

    tanding on the same location since 1647 and designated a Canada National Historic Site given its architectural value, the Cathedral bears witness to the history of a whole population. Here rest four governors of New France, the bishops of the diocese of Québec and a funerary chapel dedicated to François de Laval. Visitors will see various works of art and pieces of archives with the splendid interior decoration as a background.You could also see de Holy Door.

  • Place Royale

    Place Royale is where Samuel de Champlain founded the City of Québec in 1608. With buildings that combine French and British influences and the oldest stone church in North America, the square has a charm all its own.

  • Quartier Petit Champlain

    The streets of the Petit-Champlain district and Place Royale are an invitation to travel back in time to the founding of Québec over 400 years ago. The sense of history in this square is palpable. Nearby street Petit-Champlain will make you feel like you’ve landed in a fairytale. Here are the top things to see and do in Petit-Champlain.

  • Breakneck Steps (L'Escalier Casse-Cou)

    This outdoor staircase, the oldest in Québec City, dates back to the beginning of the French colony. Many tourists take photographs at this location, as it affords a wonderful view of one of Canada's most picturesque streets: rue du Petit-Champlain.

Don't miss this tour

"Jeanne Levasseur" was very entertaining and very knowledgeable. We had a great time. I loved the story of her family's arrival in Quebec in the early 1600s.

A dramatic performance with much underlying history!

I learned so much. The tour guide was super dramatic in her character that she played and her presentation (perhaps a bit too much at times), but she provided so much information below the surface that I came away feeling like I understood Quebec City and Canadian history so much better.

A wonderful guide and very informative tour

Our guide, Charles, did an excellent job in conveying his love and respect for his home city and country. He presented the history of Canada (necessarily brief in a two hour tour) in an easy to understand manner. He made us tourists feel very at ease, always explained things clearly, and answered all questions. This tour has been a high point in our visit to Quebec City.

Great activity to begin your stay in Old Quebec!

I'd recommend this walking tour on the first day of your stay in Old Quebec, as it orientates you to the streets and the city, as well as sparks your interest in other places you may want to visit during your stay. The tour guide did a great job narrating the script and historical stories which shape Old Quebec's history. I learned much about the city and its architecture from the narration. The tour involves two hours on your feet walking on cobblestone, brick, stone trails, and regular sidewalks. I'd recommend stable sneakers or supported shoes. Also, you walk several inclines and steep declines during the tour, so one should be in good health and able to navigate these terrains.
