Overview

The Florentine neighborhood of Oltrarno is well-known for craftmanship and laboratories - experience hands-on the traditions kept alive for centuries. First, visit a famous paper workshop where they create beautifully marbled patterns that date back to 17th century bookbinders. See how the artists create special patterns, some even still famous today. Then, try your hand at marbling for a fun keep-sake to bring home with you! Next, visit a family owned leather workshop. Oltrarno has been home to leather workers since the 14th century, and while most have moved out the city, a few workshops have managed to survive. See how this family creates beautifully hand-made products. Step inside a mosaic laboratory. While mosaics have been popular in Italy since the Roman age, Florence created their own unique version under the Medici family. Meet the craftspeople who keep this ancient tradition alive, and watch them create beautifully ornate masterpieces from rough pieces of stone.

Memorable, fun and extraordinary artisan tour!

From: Cara Hardacker <[phone]> We did the Artisan Tour and the paper marbling class with Raffaela. She was extraordinary! We loved every minute of the tour and learned so much. The artisan shops we visited were incredible and not something we would have ever discovered on our own. Raffi did a wonderful job answering all our questions. She went above and beyond to show us the area and also provided several recommendations for the rest of our trip. We highly recommend her and this tour to anyone traveling to Florence! It was such a unique, memorable and fun afternoon.

A must do experiences if you want to see something artisan in Florence.

We enjoyed the three tour guides and in our group we had Monica. We first went to the mosaic workshop which was fantastic to see and learn about it. The workshop is in a little alley way and you would not know that this work shop is there. The lady explained about the stones where they come from and showed us different stones. Then Mauro and Gabriel are stone masters and they showed us how they do it. Fantastic to see and a must visit. The second was the lovely lady who makes the leather. It is a family business and we bought a lot of items in her shops. She was so cute when she explained her business. Then we went to the marble paper painting where the lady showed us how the papers are designed and how the marble painting is done. The shop has so many different papers and there you can buy fantastic gifts to take home. We loved this experiences and thank the team in showing us. Thanks, Nadine and Mark and their 16 guests.

Great multi-event experience with LivTours!

We had a great time visiting a leatherworking shop, a paper decorating shop, and a mosaic shop. The artisans were generous with their time, and we learned a lot about the process of making these handcrafts. Our guide Rafaela was with us all day (we did a Pitti Palace tour with her earlier, and she was knowledgeable and friendly. We had my 10-month old nephew and my 7-year old daughter with us, and they both had a great time too!
