  • The British Museum

    Trade in paintings for mummies and historical artifacts on a tour of the British Museum. The enormous collection spans 6000 years of human history, featuring items from all over the world including Samurai armor and rare Assyrian lion hunt reliefs. Our guides will take a serious but enjoyable approach towards the museum’s galleries, discussing primitive tribes and fallen empires through a carefully chosen selection of items. You’ll learn about the Mummy of Katebet, the Lewis Chessmen, and the Rosetta Stone – the actual rock, not the language learning program. Walk away with an understanding of what we humans have achieved during our short history and hopefully you’ll be proud to call yourself a part of this incredible species.

Excellent Tour and Thorough Presentation

Sheldon was exceptionally engaging and humorous. As a result, we really appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed his presentation and our tour. He valued our time by promptly starting the tour in spite of 2 people who did not show. He contextualized the founding of the Musuem and its key exhibits with historical accuracy. He also shared a global and sensitive perspective about the life and times of individual people, like the Gebelin man, and those of native communities. Thank you, Sheldon.

I am very grateful that Ellie noticed 3 strangers that were looking for a different person. She was so obliging and contacted her supervisor and added us to her group. Our guide James has tremendous historic knowledge and willing shared it with our group. He walked us through the important areas of the museum and provided a great narrative on the historic relevance of each artifact or area of the museum visited. He is by far the best guide I have ever had and is definitely 5 stars.

Our guide, Andy, first gave us the history of The British Museum itself, presenting it as something “we” did in 1759. It felt like he and his fellow historians had gotten together and decide to do this thing. He gave the history of how the items we were looking at were discovered and got to the museum and the history of era the item came from, thus connect the ancient history to the modern world, always using “we” - this connecting the present to the past.
