Overview

Explore the unspoiled, remote located Surin Islands on a truly island adventure trip from Khao Lak by SeaStar Andaman without the usual high amounts of visitors. Get the privilege to snorkel around the pristine reef sites off the Surin Islands following the guidelines of the Green Fins initiative to protect the coral reefs after the massive bleaching in 2010. SeaStar Andaman - Day Tours

Get conveniently picked up in the early morning by minivan from your hotel in Khao Lak and head over to Nam Khem Pier. Meet the enthusiastic boat crew of SeaStar Andaman and enjoy a light breakfast before cruising by speed boat in less than 90 minutes to the unspoiled Surin Islands. Mu Koh Surin National Park is situated in Phang Nga province, roughly 60 kilometres away from the shore. Make the first snorkel stop in Chong Khat Bay which is located between the two main Surin Islands. At low tides it is actually possible to walk across, as the water is extremely shallow. Our guides will explain you how to protect and conserve coral reefs through the environmentally friendly guidelines of Green Fins for your snorkelling experience. Continue to Koh Surin Tai (the Southern Surin Island) to discover the natural way of life of the 150 Moken sea gypsies. The Chao Leh, which means 'The Sea People' in Thai, spend much of their lives on their boats, called 'kabang'. The Moken survive mainly through fish hunting and gathering of shellfish and other marine life from the reefs and mudflats. At Mai Ngam Beach you can enjoy the beach life or do some walking along the 2-kilometre hiking trail. Then indulge in a delectable buffet lunch in the canteen of the park ranger station to fuel your energy for the next snorkelling sessions. Make your way to Bon Bay or Pineapple Bay (depending on the sea conditions) where you can swim on vibrant coral reefs and spot colourful fish hovering around their natural habitats in calm waters. The last snorkel stop will be at Mae Yai Bay with a jump into the clean and clear turquoise waters brimming with magnificent underwater aqua life. After a lovely time, it is time to say goodbye to Surin Islands and to return to the pier in Khao Lak. Enjoy some sweets and coffee before returning to your accommodation in Khao Lak with happy smiles and an amazing story to tell your friends. Extremely well organised day trip from start to finish to the Surin Islands. The boat trip is 1hr 20mins each way and can be a bit rough even in the good conditions that were ours. The sea sickness pills they supply are highly recommended as there were moments of need let’s say. I probably wouldn’t recommend going if the weather is not serene or if you are scared of the sea. Once there the locations are very beautiful; 3 different ones snorkeling off the back of the boat, 1 visiting the Morkan people and their market, and I lunch stop with a beautiful beach relax afterwards. The lunch was very nice sitting at long tables under the trees. The team were fun, very helpful informative & fun…this is a highly recommended trip.

I have worked as a Diving Instructor on the Great Barrier Reef for years and today I learned that Australian operators could learn A LOT from Seastar. We had an incredible day, just incredible. Incredible organisation, incredible and I mean incredible snorkeling (40m+ visibility and healthy coral) and incredible service. I thought I knew this industry but I have been schooled by Seastarin every way. An absolute masterclass in how to run an outstanding daytrip from start to finish.

Best snorkel trip ever

Best organised trip I have been on! The staff were all amazing and extremely helpful. They kept us updated of all elements of the trip at all times. The tour company also took care of every need for the trip from the seasickness meds, to extra hairbands, to a swim towel, to fitted fins and great snorkel equipment. Enough time was given to each snorkel stop and lunch break. All the snack and drinks and food (before and after) were great. The staff were also so helpful in getting us ready for each snorkel stop - getting the fins on, fitting and cleaning the goggles, and all. PS. the freshwater hose down after the last snorkel stop was a brilliant and most welcome cherry on top! Just to end off that the corals and fish were really beautiful and amazing - like swimming in a giant aquarium.

Well organised and very looked after, a magical opportunity which is like snorkeling in a tropical aquarium.

After a lot of research on snorkelling trips, I booked to go to Surin islands, I booked through Cha local guide who had the best prices and the SeaStar based trip was excellently organised. Straightforward pick up in Khao Lak, not too early or too far in advance. Breakfast buffet and drinks at the dock. Can pay by card at the dock. Given snorkel, masks and flippers, including the ability to get masks with lenses if you're short sighted. Towels and travel sickness pills also available on for everyone. Boat journey was 1.25 hours each way, yes a bit choppy but far more comfortable than a small speed boat or long tail. Even though there were 4 boats going, they docked on pairs in very spacious areas and away from other groups, there were plenty of fish and areas to explore. Went to 3 locations and spent 40+ mins snorkelling at each. Large crew on board helping everyone get on and out and with their equipment, including life guards on the roof. Drinks available throughout for free. Buffet lunch of a good standard and clear communication throughout. Worth taking a dry bag as it gets a bit wet or at least a plastic bag. Beach shoes useful but not essential. Everyone had a lifejacket and also offered floats if needed. There were 2 island stops, 1 for lunch and 1 to a Morgen island, both with toilets. They also had a photographer and offering copies of pictures at the end. Also had a further buffet at the end with dinner along with ice creams, pastries and drinks before the well organised transfers. Having done several snorkelling trips in several other countries this was the best on terms of organisation, staffing and equipment offered. The main event...the fish and the coral.. were outstanding, it was like swimming in a tropical aquarium and the best I've seen. Another family said the variety and abundance was better than the great barrier reef... I can't recommend the trip enough and am glad I went and ignored many of the concerns from people who hadn't been on this trip. It was a highlight and an amazing opportunity if you get the chance to do it.
