Overview

The most fascinating, intriguing & magical hilltop villages of the Luberon from Gordes to Roussillon, Goult, Bonnieux to Lourmarin & its 15th century Château de Lourmarin. The Luberon is a Provençal patchwork of hilltop villages, vineyards, ancient abbeys & fragrant lavender fields. A rural region that makes time for the good things in life. Our journey begins with a visit to Gordes, picturesque village, renowned for its stunning stone houses & winding cobblestone streets, invites you to explore the rich history & vibrant culture of the Luberon. Next Roussillon best known for its distinctive red cliffs, created by the world’s largest known ochre deposit. From here we head towards Goult, explore the village & time for lunch in one of the village restaurants. Next a short drive to Bonnieux via the Roman bridge through the Luberon massif to the village of Lourmarin - its streets lined with upmarket galleries & boutiques. Don't miss out on a visit to the Renaissance Château de Lourmarin.

Itinerary

  • Gordes Castle

    On arrival at the village of Gordes where we spend a good hour exploring narrow streets in search of antique shops, galleries, cafes & boutiques. Time here for a snack & morning coffee. As we leave visit to the Village des Bories one of the highlights of the day.

  • Marche Hebdomadaire de Menerbes

    A visit to the village of Menerbes to explore the tiny narrow streets - guided walking tour of the village.

  • Chateau De Lacoste

    Visit to the village with walking tour of the tiny hill top village and around the ancient castle of Lacoste, home to the Marquis de Sade.

  • Chateau de Lourmarin

    Visit to the village where you have the option to both visit the village, the markets (when they operate) and a visit to the castle - Château de Lourmarin (entrance not included and time permitting)

A highlight of our two weeks !

We had a spectacular day, very well paced and planned through the French countryside to small villages with Laurent, who must know every inch of the area. He is a great storyteller, funny, and opened our eyes to seeing things we may not have noticed on our own. Plus, he knew a few good shops along the way. Highly recommend him and this company. Their communications are terrific every step of the way!

Our guide, Laurent Nurisso, was excellent. We actually did three full day tours including the tiny hilltop villages tour from Gordes to Lourmarin, Marseille, Cassis, Nice, and Cannes, among other cities. It was historical, educational, fun and a real exhilarating workout, too! On future trips to France, we would definitely use OohProvence again and strongly recommend them!!
