Our group of six had a great day with Gordon on a custom 8 hour tour of the area around Windermere, visiting Wray Castle, Beatrix Potter's Hill Top retreat, Tarn Hows, and Hawkshead, and finishing up with an enjoyable visit to Sizergh Castle. Gordon is very knowledgeable about the history and geography of Cumbria and the life of Beatrix Potter, and he graciously answered our many questions while skillfully and patiently negotiating one-lane roads, blind turns, and steep hills in a 16-passenger minibus. We particularly enjoyed his back alleys tour of Hawkshead, where we encountered the village haunts of the young William Wordsworth without encountering any other tourists! We enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast dinner at the Queens Head pub in Hawkshead, where the food was delicious and the service efficient and cheerful. We thoroughly explored Sizergh Castle in the afternoon and got a little carried away in the gift shop. It was a lovely day spent in a lovely setting with a very pleasant and well-informed guide.
