Overview

Make the most of your stay in Plovdiv with this guided walking city tour. Plovdiv is one of the oldest settlements in the world, having emerged on the three adjacent hills – the beginning of its history dates back to 4,000 years BC. It has preserved Thracian, Roman and Bulgarian heritage from different epochs. There will be a 2- hour walking tour in the heart of the town and you will learn lots of historical facts and legends while exploring its most interesting sightseeing places. You will see the Roman Theater and parts of the Roman Stadium. Walk through the longest pedestrian street in Europe. Explore the magnificent Revival old town with its unique colorful houses from the 19th century. This year Plovdiv is the current European capital of culture. Important- please wear comfortable walking shoes (cubble stone streets).

Introduction to Plovdiv history

Our guide Rally led our fairly large group through the streets of Old Town Plovdiv delivering her narrative in both English and Spanish. The majority of the group had come from Sofia, I and two others met up with them at a previously determined spot in Plovdiv. Rally was well informed and approachable and kindly answered all questions with a smile. The streets of the old city are steep and rough and might be difficult for the mobility compromised to navigate. The tour provided a good introduction to the history of the area; I found it to be worthwhile and a good value, I would recommend it for visitors to the city.

On time, well organised, cautious drving. Well designed to cover the most important parts of Plovdiv. Special mention to the guide, Dmitry. He has a deep knowledge of history which he uses to support his description of all the landmarks. Very good!

What a lovely day spent in beautiful Plovdiv. Our guide, Simeon, was wonderful: kind and courteous, and a very careful driver. He was thoughtful to give us ideas of where to visit in the town after our guided tour and where to eat lunch. The architecture there is very historical and different. It was a nice relaxing day and would highly recommend.
