Overview

Let's meet at 8: 30 am at "Plaza de la Aduana"to will take you to discover our african roots. This place was a slave' s market where africans. From here we take private transportation to go to "San Basilio de Palenque". On this trip we explain slave's route and strategies to escape from Spanish and found this town in 1603 and reach their freedom in 1713. At the moment we get there, our native guide will take us around the town and teach us it´s history, traditions and beliefs. . This town still keep the African spirit and it's easy to feel it since we get there. We visit the main square where Benkos Biohó is honored as the founder . We understand the importance of the legacy that Africans left in our culture. With a drum performance we witness their passion for music and dancing. . We have a local rum and sweet tasting . At the end of this experience you will be able to understand our roots and the influence of Africans in our culture. We are back in downtown at 1:00 pm.

Palenque Sept, AWESOME TOUR

Great tour, you can see the connection with the tour guide and village and that she gives back to the community in addition to her tours, essentially not taking advantage of the Palenque people. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOOKING! you will not regret this tour

Amazing Experience in Palenque

What an amazing day! Maria is a BUNDLE of energy and fun and so full of information. What shines through though is her passion for Palenque and the children there. She is an amazing host keeping us engaged and on track. The tour itself is well paced - you spend enough time at each stop and you get great interaction with the hosts from Palenque. I am in tourism and I love authentic tourism products and I love seeing when the people directly benefit from tourism and both were present here. I am a picky eater but the food was great. The only challenge was the heat which is beyond anyone's control. But thanks to Maria and team for providing umbrellas and keeping us hydrated w. cold water. Obviously I cannot compare to another tour because this is the only one that I have ever taken but I truly cannot imagine that there is a better tour out there.

Maria I. was an amazing tour guide, she’s fully immersed in the Palenque culture, history, and the people. It was such a heartwarming and fun experience. From making music with Kombisana, boxing lesson, dancing with the locals and I can’t forget eating a delicious meal. 10/10 recommend.

This tour was amazing. Had a great time on this tour. I learned so much great information, ate good food, sing, dance, and got a boxing lesson all in the same day.

This was an amazing experience. Probably the highlight of my trip to Colombia. It’s a must if you are visiting!

This trip was absolutely amazing! Maria has such a connection and passion for this community that radiates throughout the tour. She works with the only local female tour guide in Palenge. We got immersed in the history, language, food, music, dancing, and sports. It is very hot, but Maria does everything to make you comfortable, including providing water and umbrellas as well as taking breaks in the air conditioned van. 10/10 would recommend. This is an experience I will never forget!
