Overview

Join the night watchman and enter the town of Prague of the 17th Century. Follow the track of the noblemen, common people and colorful figures, that made history. A historical tour from the old Powder Gate through a charming old place, but also by wars and plague shaken city, until the river Vltava and the Charles Bridge. A historical tour through the centuries to bring the past back to life. Experience the beauty of the city when crowds of tourists disappear and the night watchman stays on duty on his watch with his lantern and halberd.

Itinerary

  • Prasna brana

    At the start of our tour we introduce the old Powder Gate, one of the 13 gates that protected Prague. Built in the 15th Century and storing also the gun powder since 17th century, which gives the gate its name.

  • Ovocny trh

    At the fruit market we talk about the old market place, the food of common people and offer our bread of the common people to our guests.

  • Theatre Des Etats

    We travel back to the times of Mozart when playing his premirere of Don Giovanni in the famous Estates Theater. This is also a location where we introduce a local hero of the Czech Republic.

    We pass by the first middle european university.

  • Il Commendatore Statue (Pass By)

    We pass by the statue of Il Commendatore, reminding us the first play of Don Giavanni in 1787.

  • Old Town Hall with Astronomical Clock

    At the old town square we talk about the town hall, the market place, the defenestration and famous executions that took place.

  • Jan Hus Monument

    We stop by in the 14th and 15th Century at the monument of Jan Hus and pay honor to the Hussites of Prague.

  • Church of Our Lady before Tyn

    We introduce one of the oldest churches we can find nowadays, the Tyn church from 1368.

  • Rudolfinum

    We pass by the Rudolfinum of Prague and take a break at a quiet spot along the riverside. This place offers a perfect location to make pictures or simply enjoy the stunning view on the Prague Castle.

  • Charles Bridge

    We end our tour at the beginning of the Charles Bridge, talk about the nobles from the other side and Charles IV.

Thank you David Merten for a fun but very informative tour. There's a lot of history in the streets and a lot of information to take in, and even though there were only 2 of us, his enthusiasm and knowledge made a very interesting tour. A very good storyteller and full of humour even on a very very cold evening - a must do tour.

Engaging tour for all ages

This was a fantastic tour from start to finish. We were a family of three with a 12 year daughter who was fed up with tours. She quickly changed her mind as David our guide kept her involved and brought the history of Prague to life. David our guide was so knowledgeable and and a eloquent story teller. I 100% recommend this tour.

Thomas was awesome as our Nightwatchman. With just 3 of us on our tour, it was very almost a private tour which was great. He got to know our names and a little about our stays and where we've come from. Throughout the evening he always addressed us by name which made it feel so much more personal (probably easier with only 3 instead of 20 of us!) He was very interesting and humorous with his stories and information about his "job" and how the city was during the times we had "travelled" back to. We each got to hold his lantern and Halbeard for photos. He was full of interesting historical tidbits as well as offering some current day recommendations too. He clearly loves his job and it showed in his enthusiasm and knowledge. A very fun and interesting last night in Prague for us, and hopefully if we return again we will do the Plague Doctor tour too.
