Go beyond the myths of the American South and explore the complex and intimate relationships of 4 generations of one Louisiana Creole family, both free and enslaved at Laura: A Creole Plantation, a major sugar plantation located on the banks of the Mississippi River, just one hour from New Orleans. Your admission includes a 70-minute tour with a knowledgeable guide who shares the rich history of Creole culture as seen through the lens of the family who owned Laura Plantation for generations. Tour the main house, grounds and slave quarters as you gain insight into the people who lived and worked here for centuries.

Thoughtful, intelligent glimpse of local history

Amazing retelling of the story of life in a bygone era. Good education on Creole family practices, great knowledge of the family lineage and history. Site is well preserved and kept. Well worth the time.

The tour guide was excellent. Learning about the history of the plantation was very interesting. It is very important that Americans know the history of slavery in the United States. It usually isn't taught in public schools. It's a sad era of American history.

We so enjoyed the history of the plantation owners and the slaves that made this place unique. Laura Bickman was a great guide. We loved her stories and her humor.

This tour was very well done. The history of the house and plantation was so interesting. This was our 5yo’s first exposure to the topic of slavery and it was very hard to explain. The tour guide did a good job of telling us things, but just enough over his head where he wasn’t scared. The gift shop has some great books.
