Overview

Lake Cruise and Mou Waho Island Nature Walk   • A “must see” in Wanaka, this cruise to the remote and magical Mou Waho Island nature reserve, is predator free and home to the rare and  flightless Buff Weka, (extinct on mainland NZ) • Optional one hour return guided bush walk included, taking you up to reveal the island’s secret- a lake right on top of the island! • “High Tea” overlooking both these lakes, and the panorama of the spectacular scenery of the Southern Alps spread out before us. • The option to plant a native tree on the island as part of this eco-experience is also a unique. • Morning or afternoon tea supplied. • Departs 9.00am and 1.30pm, allow 4 hours.

Meeting points

Eco Wanaka Adventures Boat leaves from the Jetty next to the Marina in Lakeside Road, Wanaka. It is around the right hand side of the lake near the Wanaka Yacht club and Public boat ramps and is the first turn off on the Left on Lakeside Road coming from the Roundabout.

Amazing

One of the best tours we have had in New Zealand. We learnt so much about wildlife and native vegetation. Micheal was a knowledgeable, enthusiastic and patient guide answering questions patiently and with good humour. We got to see bell birds, weta, weka, geckos and the views from the top of the island were stunning. I really liked that the eco in the name is earned in that not only is a tree planted each tour but the staff do conservation work on the island too.

The instructions for confirming our tour and finding the meeting point were very clear. Our skipper and guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his job. The island walk was absolutely fantastic; we learnt a lot about the history of the island, the plants and trees and the wildlife. I would highly recommend this tour.

Absolutely fantastic trip. We enjoyed it so much. Right from the off we started to learn so much about the area and its nature. Guide was so knowledgable. Definitely would recommend. The tree planting was an awesome extra! You can definitely do the trip shorter and cheaper but you will miss out on so much.

Fun interest cruise & nature walk

Great enjoyable trip starting with a boat cruise over to the Mou Waho island where we had a nature walk to the top. Our guide, Michael, was great with lots of interesting information. Walk steep in parts but easy pace and well worth the views.
