Overview

To learn about some of history's most powerful civilizations, we will embark on a journey in which we will interpret history through structures in small groups. Blue Mosque is in the core of our tour. We will begin our tour in Sultanahmet Square and proceed to Blue Mosque. During the tour, you will learn a lot about the history of Blue Mosque and Istanbul. *We also offer tailored private tours.

Blue Mosque

The Blue Mosque in Istanbul, also known by its official name, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Turkish: Sultan Ahmet Camii), is an Ottoman-era historical imperial mosque located in Istanbul, Turkey. A functioning mosque, it also attracts large numbers of tourist visitors. It was constructed between 1609 and 1616 during the rule of Ahmed I. Its Külliye contains Ahmed's tomb, a madrasah and a hospice. Hand-painted blue tiles adorn the mosque’s interior walls, and at night the mosque is bathed in blue as lights frame the mosque’s five main domes, six minarets and eight secondary domes.

Fascinating historical tour with an increadibly knowledgeable guide

An absolutely wonderful tour! We booked the Blue mosque and Sultanahmet Sq tour last minute without knowing what to expect, but so glad we did. Sib was a gracious guide (we were the only guests on our tour) who seemed to know everyone at the various places we visited, and is an increadible resource of knowledge on the history of the Mosque and area (and included an impromptu visit to the stunning Sokollu Mehmet Pasha Mosque) as well as the stories behind the religious history (believe he has just completed a doctorate on the history of religion!). Two hours very well spent, and if you are interested in a deeper historical tour to really hear about the history of the Blue Mosque and surroundings as well as the religious culture, this is definetely the tour for you. Highly recommended!

Long queues but take my advice..

Go after 5pm to avoid 2 hour queues. I went in October. Queues will be even longer in the summer. I spectacular mosque and is a must see on Istanbul and its free!!
