Overview

This is the premium version of 1-Day Rural E-Bike Tour in Hida. Same as the regular one, the tour concept is exploring the hidden part of Takayama by cool electric bikes to see and understand the authentic rural Japan. There is 1 key difference from the standard tour. Lunch is Kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese meal) and farm experience included. You pick some fruit or vegetable with people living in the village, and the local ryokan or restaurant makes the beautiful Japanese meal with local produce. No exaggeration to say, it must be the most memorable moment of your trip in Japan. Please do not miss the opportunity! *It depend on the day whether the farm experience is offered for a small group (2-3 people). If not, we can arrange to visit a local fish farm or interact with locals as alternative.

Itinerary

  • Umeseko Tour

This is a private e-bike tour held at the less travelled part of Takayama, heading for the hidden valley village to see lots of scenic views and taste the authentic Japanese cuisine made with only local produce. The tour starts from JR Hida-Hagiwara station. After some instructions, you will cycle around the historical town first. You need to go up the hill to visit the beautiful valley village but do not worry about it. E-bikes we will offer you are the special machines, so easy to use and make steep hills seem flat! At some points during the tour, you will take super nice pictures in the countryside and hear a lot of local stories such as history, culture and lifestyle that you would never know without a guide. The tour highlight is lunch time combined with a farm experience. You will visit a local farm to get ingredients for your lunch, then the local ryokan magically serves the kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese meal), which will surpass anything else you had in Japan. Through 7.5h-28km leisurely cycling, local farm experience and the luxurious lunch, you will enjoy the authentic rural Japan to your heart's content.

Lovely visit in Hida hagiwara

Published on Dec, 2022

My husband and I had a good time with Dai. We visited the Hagiwara-suwa castle, fish farm, high street of Hida Hagiwara. the lunch was in a local cafe and it was very delicious. We had enjoyed some gorgeous autumn scene in Maze. The e-bike tour is an excellent way to explore the rural area of central Japan. I enjoyed the tour. It is very close to Gero onsen. You can join this tour and then go back to your onsen hotel in the afternoon.

Awesome Day

Published on Dec, 2022

This was incredible and the tour flew by. My wife and I went and had the good fortune to be the only guests that day. The electric bikes are great you really don't have to be a cyclist to do this tour. The tour guide Dai is very friendly and knowledgeable. He lives in the area and clearly loves the area and that comes across on the tour. The scenary is beautiful, be careful riding not staring at the countryside. At one stage we rode through a tunnel not at all scenic but even that was fun. The weather was so good the day we went, autumnal, starting to get cold but still very pleasant and the sky was very blue. Would love to take my own bike and repeat the route under purely leg power. We had so much fun cycling. We saw red leaves and super clear rivers. Was exactly what I pictured for the area. The lunch we had was massive. Above and beyond expectations. The owner of the the lunch place was super friendly and happy to see tourists again. We even got the local speciality Iyu fish which was interesting as Dai was telling us about how hard they are to catch -- we stopped by the local fishing spot at one point. Personally the pork was the hightlight of the lunch. We stopped at a small beach by a river on the way back to the start for coffee and that was such a good spot to stop. Dai is very into his coffee making. Incredible place to stop, unwind and have a coffee. The tour starts and end right by the train station, so its very accessible. We came from Takayama, and that was very simple. I would definately do this again, a very memorable day. I bet the sake brewery tour would be worth doing as well. Highly recommended. Dai the tour guide mad ethe trip a special day.
