Overview

Husky Safari and Salmon Ice Fishing is one of our bestselling tours. The tour combines learning and experiencing Finnish culture and habits with a great husky adventure. Catching a fish is not guaranteed, but in our private lake, your chances are high. Plus, you are catching for a salmon! If you catch one, you can have it smoked on location or take it and prepare it at home. In this tour, we have a small-group guarantee and there will not be more than 16 participants.

Itinerary

After arriving, we will provide you thermal outwear, so you feel comfortable during the activity. When you are ready, we will begin the introduction to ice fishing. You will introduce you to the ice-fishing equipment and the best techniques to catch a fish in the winter. In our lake, we have salmon. Catching one is not guaranteed, you still need a bit of luck and patience, but chances are much higher than in other places. After, you will receive the instructions for husky sledding. We will bring you to our starting place, where each couple receives a sled with a husky team. The huskies are excited to run, so let’s not keep them waiting! You will feel the strength of the dogs as they start pulling your sled through the Lappish landscape. Normally two people share a sled, one is steering and one sitting on the sled. It is possible, and recommended, to change the positions in the middle of the track. Small children can sit together with an adult. An experienced musher will guide the tour all the time and will help you if needed. After the ride, we invite you to our kota for a snack.

Life lasting memory at the Husky Tour

Fantastic experience! We had a great Husky tour in the south west of Rovaniemi, followed by a nice barbecue and interesting stories from our guide José who told us a lot about finish traditions and history! All in all, I can highly recommend this tour, especially with José.

Amazing experience with the dogs!

Amazing experience with the dogs! Pick up from the hotel, then a 40 minute drive to the dog sanctuary. We were given warm clothes to be comfortable with the -20°C we had that morning. Then we had clear instructions on how to steer the sled and communicate with signs to each other for our own safety but also the safety of the dogs. After that, we went dog sledding for 45 minutes on a path around the frozen woods, with the beautiful arctic sunrise. The dogs were full of energy as it was their first run, and we helped take off the weight and ran with them up the slopes. After we got back, we could then pet them, with the guide telling us their names and stories for each one. We could really tell that they cared about them, and made sure they had proper rest. We then went to warm up in a hut with hot sausages and hot juice. The guides were so friendly, telling us stories, their way of living in the cold conditions, very interesting. Then we walked to the frozen pond for ice fishing. We got to drill our own holes and use the mini fishing rods. And our group caught 2 salmon! The guide then prepared a fire and grilled the fresh filet for us! In the end, we were taken back to our hotel. For all that is included, this package was absolutely perfect, we definitely recommend it!
