Edinburgh is the place in Scotland to visit for history. I’ve been to many places in Scotland, no other buildings compare to the architecture in Edinburgh.
For those from Australia/US/Canada, used to driving long distances, Edinburgh is a great spot to base yourself as it’s a 1 - 2 hour drive or less to many landmarks. If you have a car, great, if not, plenty of day tours.
Linlithgow Palace, the birth place of Mary Queen of Scots is a highlight and only 45mins from Edinburgh.
We had a car so drove 2 hours to Luss and took a ferry ride on Loch Lomond, well worth the drive.
Edinburgh is very busy but if you love your history and Scotland, it’s where you should stay.
