Overview

This 2, 5 hours walking tour includes the visit of the amazing downtown of Florence and San Lorenzo fresh market: strolling through the market stalls you will learn loads of precious information, suggestions and recommendations regarding the food traditions in Tuscany, all your senses will be overwhelmed by the colours and the flavors, even the market noise will be a pleasant sound. This is not just a street food tour, we will also illustrate the arts of the city, share history, stories and anecdotes, while passing before the famous Santa Maria del Fiore CATHEDRAL, its impressive Battistero and astonishing DOME. Before end the tour in PONTE VECCHIO there will be time to taste a simple, tasty and traditional SCHIACCIATA that is a crisp and chewy Italian bread, made with a basic mixture of flour, yeast, olive oil, water, and salt filled with cured tuscan meat. Last BUT not least here comes a refreshing ice-cream.

  • San Lorenzo

    The Basilica di San Lorenzo (Basilica of St Lawrence) is one of the largest churches of Florence, situated at the centre of the city’s main market district, and the burial place of all the principal members of the Medici family from Cosimo il Vecchio to Cosimo III. It is one of several churches that claim to be the oldest in Florence, having been consecrated in 393 at which time it stood outside the city walls. The market it is located next to the church of San Lorenzo in the Medici neighborhood. The market is made up of two separate markets: the outdoor section of the market lines the surroundings streets of the large Mercato Centrale building, here you will find leather selling, clothing and many souvenirs. This outdoor market is a great addition to your sightseeing!!

    The Cathedral Square is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence. It is one of the most visited places in Europe and the world and in Florence, the most visited area of the city. The square contains the Florence Cathedral with the Cupola del Brunelleschi, the Giotto's Campanile, the Florence Baptistery, the Loggia del Bigallo, the Opera del Duomo Museum, and the Arcivescovile and Canonici's palace. The west zone of this square is called Piazza San Giovanni. We will see this amazing square tasting a delicious icecream!

    Piazza della Signoria is one of the most captivating squares in Florence. It’s a perfectly romantic spot to sit and admire art and architecture or simply soak up the Tuscan sun with some fine people watching. Here we will taste local delicacies such as cured meat, cheese and wine!

Vera, our guide, was great. She told us some history of the city and region while we walked around town sampling some good food dishes. I think there are better places but the route takes you to a few key places in the city, and she had a list of recommended places to go on our own time. Just a note, there is a little wine on the tour in case you don't drink. If you do, you have the opportunity to buy more.

Our guide Serena was outstanding. She had so much knowledge about the places we went and also little stories which made it personal. The food was excellent. The olive oil and other items were our first stop in Central Market. Then 3 pastas- Yummy! Sandwiches and gelato were great. Ask for Serena- you won’t be disappointed.
