Overview

Elephanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a collection of cave temples predominantly dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. They are located on Elephanta Island, or Gharapuri in Mumbai Harbour, 10 kilometres to the east of the city of Mumbai in the Indian state of Mahārāshtra. Trimurti is the most renowned sculpture in mandapa of the Great Cave is Trimurti (Trimurthy) – sculpture with three faces of Shiva. It is located on the south wall of mandapa and is 6.1 m high. Trimurti resembles a Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh (Shiva) – royal insignia of Rashtrakutas.

A Perfect Sunday Morning

A great morning trip out to the Island with a highlights tour of Mumbai. Great guides including within Mumbai, at the Island and then our car and boat driver. And for a bonus, they all take great photos! Highly recommended.

Very well organized with on time pickup in nice air conditioning car. Sameer was very attentive and knowledgeable; same for the local tour guide Harich on Elephanta Island.

This was my second tour with this company, loved the first and was not disappointed with this one. Every courtesy and care extended and the tour went very smoothly. Enjoyed the whole experience and appreciated the tour of the caves provided by Hanesh. The significance and history of the site was clearly explained, as was its ongoing significance as a holy site and economic support to the people of the island.

Sameer was a little silent but very very nice and gentle guy. He explained the attractions historically and kindly answer to whatever I asked. And, he always take care of our safety from the crowded people and the rush of cars. Also we could have a good experience thanks to him. The AC vehicle was clean, the driver was also nice. But, I'm sorry for not remembering his name. Anyway we had a good time with Sameer.
