Overview

The tour (Group or private) through the slum's narrow alleys is quite an adventure, and you will undoubtedly feel the strong sense of community and the unique spirit that exists here. Dharavi became famous through the worldwide hit movie “slumdog millionaire“ in 2008. You will find a wide range of activities in this mini-city such as plastic recycling, leatherwork, pottery, papadam baking, soap production, such as schools and churches. Don't expect to find extreme poverty by walking through Dharavi. The tour breaks stereotypical beliefs and will inspire you for your daily life. and Tour Guides are College students live in Dharavi Slum

    Dharavi slum tour begins at the Mahim Railway Station. From here head straight to the Plastic and Metal Recycling yard of 13th Compound. Get abreast with the amazing small sized industry melting and moulding plastic toys and manufacturing buttons for popular brand Barbie Dolls of India.

The tour was really amazing went as a young women felt safe and was so interesting to see a insight of how the people work there and make business. Abhi was our great tourguide and he answered all the questions and gave really nice insight views. Really worth a visit ! (That comes from a person that was unsure about doing it bc it felt weird to take a visit at peoples home, but defiantly worth it!)

I had not planned in taking this tour, but due to an unexpected injury to another guide, was left with this option- and I am so glad that I did. My guide Bharti was born, raised, and continues to live in the Dharavi community. She is very knowledgeable about it’s history, its current commercial & residential offerings, speaks very good English and is fun, funny, and nice. This is an amazing community of industrious people that are recycling, repurposing, living in harmony with their neighbors. We ended our tour by having tea with her parents in their home. The best masala chai I have had after 20 days of travel in India. I highly recommend this tour, and Bharti in particular. Go!

mukesh and Arti gave the an amazing tour to us of the Dhravi. They explained everything with detail and compassion. they did not rush us and let us explore at our own pace. They allowed us to interact with the local residents and explained the community dynamics — something you cannot get from your own walking tour. . They took good care of us and went above and beyond. Definitely five star rating!!
