Overview

Hakone is one of the most popular destinations in Japan. This tour is led by a professional local guide and completely customized based upon your request. In this tour, visit many great attractions in just one day including Hakone Yosegi Zaiku, 1266 years old Hakone Shrine and more. Take a break at one of the oldest tea houses in Hakone and enjoy a cup of Amazake or other beverage while feeling completely relaxed in the beautiful environment of Hakone.

Itinerary

  • Owaku-dani Valley

    Desolate mountainsides covered by plumes of smoke produce a distinct scene fitting the area’s former name of Hell Valley. Now, the Hakone Ropeway rises above Owakudani. The ropeway also offers many scenic spots. Travelling from Sounzan to Owakudani, passengers can see the bottom of the valley below, and when en route to Togendai, they can enjoy views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi.

    At Lake Ashi, a serene lake surrounded by mountains, a pirate ship cruise runs between the three ports of Hakonemachi-ko, Motohakone-ko and Togendai-ko. Three ships with different designs sail on the lake, and the visitors can enjoy the grand view of the ships passing by each other.

    There is an avenue of 400 years old Ceder trees just in front of the Onshi Hakone Park. This is a part of the original Tokaido road, which was built by a Shogun in 17 century to connect Tokyo and Kyoto.

  • Onshi Hakone Park

    This place was used as a summer retreat for the Japanese imperial families about 150 years ago. Now it's given to the public and you can enjoy a beautiful view of Mt.Fuji over the lake on a clear day. This place has also authentic and lovely gardens.

  • Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu

    Visit 1266 years old Hakone Shrine. You will learn the history of Shintoism in Japan and how it has affected the local culture and history. The iconic red "Torii" gate on the water is a highlight in this tour.

    The same family owns this tea house (not a tea room) for 400 years with 13 generations. This has been the place where travelers take a rest along their long journey. You can enjoy their special dring, Amazake, with the same recipe that hasn't changed from the very beggining.

Hakone

We had a lovely time with Hiroko! She was so friendly and knowledgeable! She was able to customize our tour and adjust according to the weather. Despite rain, we had a great time!! We had a delicious lunch and she assisted us with luggage and train transfers! Our experience was relaxing and gave us the opportunity to spend quality family time!!!

Our day in Hakone

Koto was an excellent guide. Her English was terrific and we had a lovely day chatting away. She knew the way to make our tour as efficient and enjoyable as possible. We were lucky enough to see Mount Fuji making the day more spectacular. We also enjoyed stopping by the authentic old tea house and meeting the owner who was our guide’s brother. Overall it was a wonderful day.

Best Hakone Tour and Guide

We went on a tour with a certified professional local guide, her name was Hiroko Omori from explore-hakone. She planned for us the itinerary which included all main areas of Hakone. Our tour included lunch at a restaurant and a drink at the amazake chaya tea house. It was a well organized tour, and the guide explained to us about everything. I would strongly recommend her as a guide for Hakone tour.

Hiroko gave me and my family a private tour of Hakone and she was an excellent guide in all respects. She has great knowledge of the region and speaks excellent English. She struck a difficult balance between giving us plenty of interesting information about what we saw and experienced but without overwhelming us. She answered questions we had and was attentive to everyone’s needs (we were a party of six), particularly my sister-in-law who had difficulty walking on steep slopes and steps.
