    Mae Chan is a town and a district (amphoe) in the northern part of Chiang Rai Province, northern Thailand. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Mae Sai. Chiang Saen, Doi Luang. Mueang Chiang Rai and Mae Fa Luang of Chiang Rai Province.

  • Akha Hill Tribe

    he Akha, also known to the Thai as the Gaw or the E-gaw (names that the Akha do not like), are located primarily with Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai province. The Akha are closely related with the Hani of Yunnan province, China, the Akha-Hani complex numbers about two to three million people, but with just over 70,000 members in Thai territory. The Akha speak a language in the Lolo/Yi branch of the Tibeto-Burman language group, but have no traditional written language. There are a variety of schemes for writing Akha developed by missionaries or linguists which employ Roman, Thai or Burmese characters, but literacy in Akha is still virtually nil. The Akha are traditionally subsistence farmers, growing a variety of crops including rice and corn.

Very educational, you pack a lot into a short little day trip! My guide was very knowledgeable. I switched my pickup location last minute and they reached out right away in the morning and fixed it. Very nice.

Beautiful place where you can clearly see Laos and Myanmar. Drive was very pretty from my hotel abd it was around 45 minted.

Toni who organized my trip was amazing! Chang Mai and Chang Rai is a definitely a must travel destination with many amazing temples. My favorite was the white and blue temple. Toni was very accomodating to my travel needs and was even able to customize 1 day of my itinerary with a very affordable cost. Tum Tum, Sara, and Susie were my favorite tour guides. Sara was very funny and Susie made my trip to Hinoki Land a great experience! Tum Tum was great with my Chang Mai temple tours. Sara was great with the Chang Rai tours. And Susie with my customized tour. They were all great, very nice, and informative tour guides. If you want to travel Thailand and Cambodia definitely book directly with Indochina Tours. I had booked my trip with another agency just to find that the agency I booked connects with Indochina tour. I would have booked directly with Indochina tours had I known their website ahead of time. Toni was very accomodating and informed me of the time of pick up on every tour. I definitely recommend them. It was a very pleasant trip and enjoyed every day! It was a memorable trip I will never forget. I will definitely come back to Thailand, this time to Phuket and Krabi and will book with Indochina Tour directly.

This was one of the best tours we have been on: seeing the tribespeople’s, going to the borders, magnificent lunch w Mr Kong by Laos border. He is thoroughly familiar. He is gracious and magnanimous; a delightful guide. We respected his efforts; while we added to our tour and tipped handsomely, he was completely eager to assist. I really loved this adventure
