If you love historic homes and history, Savannah is a great place to visit. On a recent weekend get-away I chose to tour the Andrew Low House which is located in the lovely Lafayette Square.
I was just a couple of minutes late for a tour. Rather than have me wait, the lady at the desk, suggested I catch up to the tour and pay the admission ($11) after I finished the tour. I thought that was very nice.
Gloria, our docent, was well versed in the history, furnishings, and architectural details of the home. I enjoyed both seeing the home and learning about it. Even though, quite 'fancy' it felt like a family home.
Juliette Gordon Low, famous for founding the Girl Scouts, was the wife of Andrew Low's son, William MacKay Low. After the tour I got the ‘tea’ from the lady who collected my money. Old William was having an affair and in the process of divorcing her when he suddenly died. It was messy, but she ended up getting the house. Many of the early Girl Scout activities were conducted at the home.
Highly recommended!
