Overview

Don´t miss out on this perfect opportunity to learn all about the beautiful city of Ålesund and her surroundings; a visit to the enchanting islands of Giske and Godøy, the Sunnmøre Museum and sightseeing. Climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse in Alnes on Godøy or go for a stroll on the beach. A visit to the picturesque open-air Sunnmøre Museum will teach you all about how life was in this part of the country a few centuries ago. Enter the boathouses for another fascinating exhibition. From the museum you will go to Storhaugen viewpoint and enjoy the stunning view over the city, followed by a tour through the center of this spectacular art nouveau city.

The meeting point is within walking distance from the port/pier and most of the hotels. Look for our staff on the pier, yellow jackets, carrying our company logo. Be at the meeting point 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Please note that "gate" means "street" in Norwegian.

    Climb the stairs of the Alnes Lighthouse and enjoy the magnificent view over the Atlantic Ocean. Due to new regulations from the city for Mount Aksla, there is an influx of new visitors to Alnes lighthouse. On some occasions our visit to Alnes may change from an inside visit to an outside or panorama visit.

A lot of sites packed into this tour

This tour gave us a great combination of sites and experiences, and Sandra was a wonderful guide. We started out going up a hill to an overlook of Alesund (not the one that has the observatory). Then we had over an hour at an outdoor museum of old dwellings. We drove to a couple of neighboring islands via bridges and underground tunnels. We were able to visit a lighthouse and climb to the top (very steep steps) for beautiful views, and spend a minute at the beach nearby made up of unique granite boulders. We stopped at a very old Viking era church, and returned to Alesund and got a drive through town with commentary from our guide. We saw so many things, and still had time to do some sightseeing and shopping around town on our own afterward. I will caution that there is a lot of walking involved on this tour, in order to see the promised sites, and much of it is uphill, or up stairs. There were some in the group that were frustrated that the tour description wasn't clear about that.

Our tour guide, Sandra, was knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed the tour overall but it was a little too long. And as it was towards the end of the season, some cafes and stores were already closed for the season.

It was great to explore so many areas near Alesund. Our favorite part was going up to the top of the lighthouse. Sandra was our tour guide here and in Geiranger and she did an excellent job keeping us informed about all the beautiful sights!
