Overview

From Alaskan history and native culture to a culinary tasting, enjoy all aspects of what makes Ketchikan unique! Begin your tour with an action-packed performance at the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show where these world champion athletes wearing spiked boots and hard hats, compete in 12 athletic events that utilize seven-pound axes, six-foot razor-sharp saws, tree climbing gaffs, and souped-up chainsaws. Join us in Saxman Native Village for a culinary experience to learn all about Alaskan ingredients and their uses in a modern cooking environment. The culinary tasting will offer a unique setting to enhance your culinary knowledge and expand your palate with true Alaskan ingredients. The culinary demonstration is complemented by a cultural showcase of Alaska Native art. This tour also includes a scenic drive throughout Downtown Ketchikan. The Driver will point out historic sights and popular landmarks.

Fascinating and educational insight into Tlingit culture.

Saxman village dance presentation and totem park. A very well-presented tour. The guide, Yeil, gave us a lot of insight into Tlingit life, tradition and culture. The dance show was amazing, especially as it included several different generations so that the young maintain their culture. The way that the youngsters had been taught and fully understood the meaning of the different dances was clearly evident. The totem poles were fantastic, Yeil explained the meaning behind each pole and we were also able to see a traditional carver at work who gave us an explanation of the type of wood that is used and carving techniques. All in all an excellent experience that we would happily repeat.

Great lumberjack show followed by a very personal cultural experience with David, Lee and Tamara. They really make it seem like you are visiting a friend. Great tastings and great food in addition to the super learning experience and film. Thanks to all. I recommend this tour.
