Overview

Frankfurt is a small city with a big history. Did you know the first ever German parliament was held here? This self guided audio tour is about finding your way around the city centre and enjoying fun facts and interesting sights, that you would never discover on your own. You'll start at Frankfurt's beautiful old opera house and walk right through the modern shopping heart to the Altstadt, discovering the stock market, Goethe's house, a peace garden, the new Old Town and much more along the way. I’ll explain why the old Hühnermarkt ( chicken market) was rebuilt and tell you how the town hall came to be called the Römer. You’ll see these landmarks along the way: • The 19th century opera house and stock exchange • The bull and bear statues • Stunning replicated architecture of the old Hühnermarkt • The Kleinmarkthalle (indoor market) • The Eisenersteg and views of the River Main

Perfect for a midday walk around the city

I had about 5 hours to kill on a layover in Frankfurt, so I decided to look for an audio tour to give me a short and sweet guide to discover the city. This one was perfect! It takes about 1.5-2 hours to complete, which was just the right timing. It gives you opportunities to stop and explore or eat on the way, and the directions are clear and easy to follow. The historical and cultural facts were well explained, and I felt like I got a good snapshot into Frankfurt’s history.

Perfect for a day’s layover in Frankfurt

I had about a 6 hour layover in Frankfurt and this was a perfect way to pass my time. I found a left luggage place near the airport and then downloaded this tour. I ended up not quite finishing the whole thing because I backtracked a bit to go back to get some lunch at the kleinemarkt, as suggested in the tour (but that was cash only, so I had to find an ATM), but everything about the tour itself was great!
