Our experience started with a most welcome and refreshing iced Daintree tea served by the friendly and helpful hostess who answered all our questions. The tour itself was so much better than we expected. The vessel was comfortable, uncrowded and with sufficient shade from the sweltering heat. Within minutes we had spotted the scary male, Lumpy and heard of his recent territorial win of the prized position on the river. Alan, our most knowledgeable yet entertaining guide, then told us to look out for the young female. We all saw Bruce and her grassy nest holding her clutch of precious eggs. We heard how she happened to have a male name, and she graced us a display of maternal protection with her jaws open and her tail arched cat-style above the water to ward us off. All too soon, our tour was over and we returned to the centre to pick up another cup of iced tea and a couple of boxes of tea and souvenirs for our friends back at home.
