The organizer of the sake tasting and the organizer of the whiskey tasting both felt the desire to bring Japanese culture to foreign visitors with their respective passions. Tasters can choose either "100% whiskey" or "50% sake/50% whiskey" course for the tasting. I chose the "50% sake/50% whiskey" course.
The sake all had a pleasant aftertaste, with an impressive non-habitual flavor that was not unpleasant. The glass also had a nice texture that hit my lip. The whiskies were offered with a variety of stories and the organizer's most favorite brand, which had a good balance of flavors, was brought to the end, which was a nice touch. We learned a lot about what makes a good drink in the whiskey industry. The action of serving the drinks was not wasteful, and they matched the pace of the participants' drinking. The "ma" (pause), where the timing is staggered without rushing for those who want to enjoy their drinks slowly, is also a very nice experience to learn about Japanese culture.
I am Japanese, but I think this event was very educational and interesting for Japanese people working in the restaurant industry, as a study of customer service, English, Japanese whiskey and sake. It was a valuable experience for me to learn about Japanese sake (brands I did not know), learn the process of serving and proposing sake to foreign tourists, and experience a global scene. If I have another opportunity, I would like to invite my friends to participate again. Thank you very much.
日本酒テイスティングの主催者とウイスキーテイスティングの主催者が、両者それぞれの情熱を持って外国人観光客の皆様に日本の文化を届けようという思いを感じとった。テイスティングは「ウイスキー100%」、または「日本酒50%/ウイスキー50%」のコースを選ぶことができます。私は日本酒50%/ウイスキー50%のコースを選択しました。
日本酒は、どれも後味が良く、嫌味のない癖のない味わいが印象的でした。器も口に当たる質感が良かったです。ウイスキーは、様々なタイプをストーリー仕立てで提供しており、味のバランスがとれた主催者の最も好きな銘柄を最後に持ってきたという流れが好印象でした。ウィスキー業界のどういったものが良い酒なのかと言うことを学ばせていただきました。お酒を提供する動作も無駄はなく、参加者の飲むペースに合わせてくれます。ゆっくりお酒を楽しみたい人に対して、焦らずにタイミングをずらしてくれる「間」というのも、日本の文化を学ぶ上でとても素敵な体験だと思います。
私は日本人ですが、本イベントは飲食業で働く日本人にとっても接客の勉強として、英語の勉強として、また酒の勉強として、非常に学び多い面白いものだと思います。日本のお酒(知らない銘柄)を知り、外国人観光客に提供・提案する過程を学び、グローバルな場面を体感するという貴重な経験でした。また機会があったら、友達を誘って参加したいと思います。ありがとうございました。
