Overview

Get to know both sides of Terezin’s story during this 10-hour day trip.  Meet your guide and small-group at a central location.  Learn about one of the most sophisticated baroque fortresses of Europe, later used by Nazis as a Jewish Ghetto and Gestapo prison.

Meeting points

Tour departs from the top of Wenceslas Square. Your guide will be standing in front of statue of St. Wenceslas holding a lime green umbrella.

Itinerary

  • Mala Pevnost (Small Fortress)

    You will get a tour of Terezín's Small Fortress, which used to be a gestapo prison during WWII. Your guide will explain you when and why the fortress was built and how Nazi regime used it to prosecute political prisoners. You'll see the conditions people lived in and see original video footage from the WWII depicting "ideal" life of people in Terezín.

    Before entering Small Fortress you'll see Terezin Memorial, located on the ground of former mass grave.

  • Terezin

    Explore with your guide history of Terezín's big fortress, which used to be a Jewish Ghetto in WWII. You'll walk through its streets, see what's left from the time of ghetto, visit a crematorium located just outside its walls and last you'll explore a part most people miss - its's unique baroque fortification system, which at the time of its completion was the best in Europe. You'll get a chance to explore tunnels inside its walls and learn how the fortification system worked.

An amazing place to see....

An amazing place to see. How the fort was built is incredible. Then to hear the history of the ghetto and jail. Our tour guide Jack was great, full of knowledge and info.

My husband, daughter, and I wanted to learn more about Terezin and opted for the Explore Prague Terezin Fortress and Concentration Camp tour. Our tour guide, Honza (Jack), was amazing! We were running late the morning of our tour and Jack pivoted meeting us at the train station to ensure we were able to start our tour on time. Jack was extremely knowledgeable about Terezin before and after WWII answering all of our off the wall questions. He was able to educate us on the purpose of Terezin and what really occurred there. He brought the story to life for us through the information and photos he shared. It is a somber subject and Jack treated it respectfully. Jack was also able to lighten the mood when the time was appropriate. We saw so many places and learned so much. Thanks Jack for a wonderful experience!

Jack was amazing! It was truly a V.I.P tour if you ask me. I think if you truly want to see and learn Terezin for both it WW2 history and the fortress itself this is the perfect tour for you.

Had an absolutely exceptional tour of Terezin with our guide, Jack. He was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the fortress and it's inhumane use during WW2. I feel fortunate to have been on this tour and would highly recommend!!!!!!!!!

We took the day long tour of the Terezin Fortress and Jewish ghetto, as well as the crematoria and small fortress. Our guide Jack was supremely knowledgeable about the history of the fortress before and during the war as well as the full history of WW2. We walked a bit around Prague and saw the Gestapo headquarters and other important landmarks before boarding the train to Terezin. Be prepared for about 17,000 steps for the day long trip. Well worth it. Thanks Jack!!
